  • A need for speed !!!!

One of my mates who is a massive rooster fan and works in Bondi Junction, told me that he bumped into Michael oldfield (he thinks) the other day.

It got me thinking of the need we have for a fast backline next year in attack. It also reminded me of how slow our backline has been when we have gone bad. Remember this in 2009:

    1. Jordan Tansey
    2. Sam Perrett
    3. Sia Soliola
    4. Mitch Aubo
    5. Brent Grose

Can anyone remember over the years a slower backline than that???

Speed-wise this is the best backline we have.

    1. RTS
2.Mini (low acceleration but he is actually really fast when he gets all cylinders firing).
3.Oldfield (Says in his profile he can play FB, WG, and centre).
    4.SKD
5.Rokolati (watched him in the 20s, really fast).
    Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

Speed's overrated, it's a nice asset but far more important attributes to have.

Not sure that you could say that was our backline in 2009, I don't think Brent Grose played for us in 2009, Tansey was let go during the season, don't think he played many games, Mini came back from injury after having Sam play fullback most of the year, but yeah 2009 obviously was not a good year, worst in 43 years! We'll have enough speed in 2013, especially on the edges, RTS, Tupou, Oldfield & maybe Roka will all be v.good finishers IMO.

Although your suggested team sucks I do think we are slowly getting ourselves some quick backs.

With Sheck, Oldfield, SKD in the backs (possibly cooper) it will be refreshing to finally have some speed again!

I think the Roosters need to seriously get a defence structure mastered over the summer which I think they will.

Have a game plan for next year of getting into the arm wrestle with who ever we are playing & grinding out wins. The team has to get down & get dirty & be preparred to start to do things the hard way. If they can get there defence in order & they can start to dominate who ever they are playing & start winning you will then find things start to click in attack & the tries will come.

You need plenty of ticker to play NRL before you worry about your speed.

the more you stop the opposition scoriung, the less you have to score to win! along with that comes a top notch goalkicker witrh a backup and the ability to kick a field goal as required.

Speed can overcome a lot of weaknesses.
