IT was Sonny Bill's last supper - for now. The Daily Telegraph was on the spot last night when Williams attended a farewell team dinner with Roosters teammates at exclusive Criniti's restaurant in Woolloomooloo.
Williams will shortly leave Australia to complete his commitments with Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan's Top League rugby union competition before returning to Sydney in the New Year.
Wanting to make their new recruit feel comfortable and relaxed at his new club, the Roosters' senior players arranged last night's dinner.
The injured Williams has been back in Australia to confirm his one-year deal with the club and promote his boxing career.
Williams has been attending Roosters team talks even when not required.
"The senior players wanted to take Sonny out," said a source close to the team.
"He will be a huge part of the Roosters' campaign next season and everyone at the club wants him to have a smooth transition back into rugby league.
"With Braith Anasta gone, Sonny Bill will take on a senior role in 2013."
The Roosters are currently paying $17 to win next season's competition.
The TAB has placed them on the ninth line of betting alongside Wests Tigers.
Earlier this week, Williams offered to fund the defection of good mate Quade Cooper from rugby union to the NRL.
Asked about Cooper and the Roosters, Williams said: "He would make a massive success of league.
"I'd give him half my pay packet to lure him across and that's not just words, I would really do that.
"I said to a couple of the boys at the Roosters that I wanted to do it (give Cooper half his salary). I think that he would be great, not just for the game but for our club as well."
Despite Williams' versatility, coach Trent Robinson is expected to play his star in the back row next season.
