When someone has achieved all they have to achieve at such a young age, a larger window of opportunities can be a lot more lucrative than staying in the same place with the same old low salary. Football is a business to them (players) and to club managers, and not a passion or lifestyle like it is to us loyal supporters.
He only has X amount of years to earn as much as he could possibly can and still have fun at doing what he is doing. Both of those aspects need to be in balance. He was earning a bucket load at GWS but was unhappy. He will earn less at the tahs but may be happier than staying in the afl.
The eels would not have offered him anymore than the tahs, and from what was going around, the eels were stalling on negotiations. Goodluck to the kid and hopefully one day we see him playing for the wallabies. Rather than have league officials targeting folau over his choice, maybe they should point their rifles at their own people and ask themselves why we can't afford to keep/buy superstars in our game. The media, especially the telegraph, are going to make love to Izzy scenario over the next few years and he would have been put on their hate list alongside us.
well there you go again.
what gives you the right to talk so much sense
Perhaps it will take a generation of this code-switching idiocy before people realise that they are simply sacrificing the opportunity to be truly great at one sport for the sake of being at best average at a few others.
That said, I think Folau will surprise some people in union.
I have nothing wrong with the man wanting to earn mate, nothing at all. It's a short life in the footy codes, you gotta make while you are able to.
When he went to gAyFL I had no problem with that, it was for the cash.
I guess it's the spin in certain sections of the media I don't like. The tagging his case incorrectly onto $BWs which is totally different.
Folau took a lot of cash to draw families to another code in RLs heartland. For the media to allow him so much grace and not even question the damage he did to our game IMO is out of order.
And as others have said I don't believe the bloke is that deserving of such attention. He is a freakish athlete granted, but IMO not worth top billing as a marquee type player.
I'm not a fan of the way he has conducted business cos it's damaging to our game. He can do what he likes. I don't like it personally.
Fark him.
I dont like either but its everyman for himself these days and I guess when u take the emotion out of it u cant blame them.

Mate not at all.
Honestly I have nothing against Folau wanting to earn big coin, in any sport.
It's purely the way he has treated our game. The bit about wanting to pull fans from our heartland, like with kHunt, is my gripe.
Fans are the lifeblood of all sports. Without them players won't ever earn good money, TV won't be interested in our sport, newspapers won't write about it etc.
I gather these things haven't really entered his mind, and that's fair he's out for himself he isn't thinking about RL in general.
The medias gloss on the situation is wrong IMO. How they hammer $BW who simply broke his contract, paid $750k to the Boggs, and sat out for 5 seasons but Folau is Teflon.
Coaches, players, administrators, clubs even journos walk in and out of contracts every day in all pro sports. Very few take cash to steal fans to other sporting codes.
I honestly wonder if Folau was linked to Easts would the sentiment from the media be the same??? Even when I think about it dIzzy has been playing an unrelated code for a few years, his body shape has changed dramatically but his ability hasn't been questioned. $BW has been playing a very similar game at the highest level but everyone thinks he won't handle RL again. It makes little sense.
Good luck to dIzzy. I won't be watching him play Yawnion, as I didnt watch any of the other blokes who left. The game is a snore fest IMO, in fact I have watched more gAyFL (this years GF only) over the last 10 years.
I guess I will see dIzzy in a season or two again.

Only reason he was 'unhappy' was because he was rubbish in a rubbish team. i very much doubt that the 4 or 5 odd mill he got promised by the afl was not paid to him in full because he was not really employed as a player, but as a advertisement. Anything after 5mill is a paycut, unless he went and played NFL.

what are you on about?
All the coverage in the papers today is negative towards Folau - the piece that I posted earlier from the herald, and todays tele, which refers to him as "footy's biggest mercenary". It also contains all the comments from Stuart about being used, we don't need him, etc
He's getting absolutely hammered, even by the pro union SMH, and you get "Teflon" out of it?
The man was free to choose his employment and chose Rugby Union. People are clearly upset at his absence to the game. I for one do not care if Israel Folau plays in the NRL again as the game has always replaced those who left us.

He is only getting hammered cos he chose to sign elsewhere.
When he was publicly wanting to return to RL the media was all pro dIzzy.
I was then saying the same thing though, the man was paid to draw our fans from our heartland to a competing code.
It's the media that's changed it's tune. Only cos it suits to sell more units, now. As it suits them to continually hammer $BW, it sells papers. Or how you admitted your boy does it in the anti-RL press, uses Easts to sell papers.

Good call....wait till the press reports change their tune before jumping in to the discussion. Back track through the newspaper articles that were around when stsae posted and show us one that was anti-Folau

Exactly! Where was Tony Wheelie when Izzy wanted to join Parra? When the Telecrap were demanding the ARLC should make his return happen??

I can remember him scoring one of the best solo tries in origin I have ever seen, as a teenager. He did the same thing many times in the NRL, just steamrolling 3 or 4 defenders on 40 metre runs to score. Folau performed from the moment he debuted in the NRL.. To compare Leilua or Moga to Falou is embarrassing.
What try was that? His only origin tries on youtube are basically catch and put down tries.
Honestly I can't recall him scoring a try from further than 15m out his entire career. He is a specialist winger, and thats it
I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm not lemon_goat.The only other account on this forum I have ever used in Rooster2013 earlier this year.
I'm sorry that I'm not a one alias kind of guy like you, or has someone hacked into your account too.
