  • Michael Jennings to become a CHOOK

THE Sydney Roosters are on the verge of signing NSW Origin centre Michael Jennings from Penrith effective immediately.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Panthers general manager Phil Gould's ongoing feud with Jennings has all but delivered the Blues strike weapon to rookie coach Trent Robinson at the Roosters' Allianz Stadium headquarters.

The coup for the Roosters would deliver the club its biggest Penrith junior since Brad Fittler defected to join then Tricolours coach Gould at Bondi Junction in 1996.

It also continues the big-name player exodus from Penrith under Gould and coach Ivan Cleary's tenure, following former captain Luke Lewis and Michael Gordon's defection to Cronulla last season.

The Roosters and Penrith are negotiating the terms of Jennings being granted a release from his $600,000 contract and a deal could possibly be finalised by as early as this week.

The story caught fire on social media yesterday after Panthers supremo Gould cryptically tweeted at 9.08pm last Friday: "Very difficult for any struggling team to rise out of the cellar when key players perform poorly and won't accept responsibility for results." Jennings' signature would deliver the Roosters one of the NRL's most potent attacking backlines, joining Mitchell Pearce, James Maloney, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Anthony Minichiello and young guns Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Tautau Moga.

A deal had all but been done for Jennings to join St George Illawarra at the end of last season only for his manager Isaac Moses to intervene and stipulate he did not want his client playing at the Dragons.

Jennings is Penrith's highest-paid player, who was signed to a ridiculous back-ended five-year contract under the Panthers' previous administration and has long been regarded as a problem child in Sydney's greater west.

His feud with Gould stretches back to this time last season, when the Panthers supremo called him into the club's Mulgoa Rd headquarters and delivered a spray over his attitude.

The result was Jennings started the season in scintillating form before breaking club rules on Anzac Day at Panthers Leagues club, leading coach Ivan Cleary to drop him to the NSW Cup outfit the Windsor Wolves.

NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart then showed tremendous faith in Jennings, making him the first Blues player in 30 years to be chosen from reserve grade.

Jennings rewarded Stuart with five-star performances on the game's biggest stage as Penrith floundered at the foot of the NRL table.

MASSIVE, massive news. Great news. I really think the naysayers that will harp on about his attitude should just step back and think of the gap he fills and the talent he exudes. He is the piece we needed to be considered genuine premiership contenders. The sky is the limit!

Has there been a bigger recruitment in the history of the game than maloney, sbw, jennings?

Now we have all the firepower, lets see if the coach can control his weapons effectively.

This is Bullshit. The Tellecrap has been trolling the Pen and now try to regurgitate it as a legitimate story. You guys have been talking about Jennings for the last few days. The Tellycrap will write anything to discredit Gould.

It's a point... why would the Tell You Crap know before anybody else? (Including Jennings and Gould.)

Oh yeah that's why. Still... the possibility makes me cream myself.

                  Chooks eye Jennings
WITH young gun Tautau Moga sidelined until July after a knee reconstruction, word is the Roosters have been sniffing around to see if they can prise Michael Jennings away from Penrith. The representative centre, who is on a lucrative deal with the Panthers, has been linked to several clubs, including Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra, during the past six months. Having recently released Mose Masoe and BJ Leilua, the Roosters may have enough space in their salary cap to accommodate Jennings.

BJ and Masoe gone=500k. We would have paid him 650k or something like that but as kegs said before Christmas that was the offer but Jennings wanted 700k that he was getting at Penrith so he refused.

Penrith now have forced him to take a pay cut and Gould is desperate to get rid of him so badly so now he's come crawling back. So the offer got reduced. And also the cap has increased. At the end of the season we will offload more players so that we can re-sign Cordner and Pearce. Make Pearce captain to give him the golden carrot to enticing him to stay.

We are in no cap problems. The only thing that worries me is that we may get rid of SKD. And when Moga comes back where to put him. We want to develop him into the next Folau. That ain't on the wing. Meh still happy I really reckon were definites for the 8 now. Much better squad than Sharks and Knights now. We now have the squad to not get 40+ floggings, beat the Bulldogs in one game at least, beat Manly, beat lol@souffs in rd 1. We now have a team capable of challenging top teams.

With or without Jennings we have a squad to match top teams. With Jennings hopefully we can smash top teams.

His attitude may reflect the way he has been treated. It would be great for us if he fits into the team.
                              Bring on February!
                              I'll miss Mose though
