2013 Roosters Captain to be announced today at 1pm

Robinson has just made his first major mistake, by naming Mini captain he paints himself into the corner and won't be able to truely pick the side each week on form, this will fast turn into another Anasta situation

its crazy a player who is only here because of the long serving player allowance in the salary cap is now made captain.

very happy to see Maubs miss the leadership group as his form last season means he will be lucky to start the season in the top 17.

Robinson must be pretty confident that Pearce is going to stay beyond 2013 to name him one of the vice captains.

bag the shyt out of mini if you chose but when a team(5/8) plays like shit , every one plays like shyt. dumb passes under pressure due to a crap coaching style led us to a shyt year. forced passes, poor uneducated decisions, wrong players in the wrong positions....thank fcuk smith and sons are gone.

look forward to a new mini, a new roosters, a new games plan and dissaplin. no more kicking out deep of the kick off. no more laying allover a player in the tackle, no more wingy anastarrrrrrr getting in the faces of the refs pi$$ing them of so much they are forced to hate us.

Mini is not the player he used to be but you can always guarantee 1 thing with him. He will give you 100%. He is still the best player in the comp under the high ball. He cant tackle for crap or pass left to right for crap but guess what.... he is great under the high ball

Mini actually played some great games last year, and some not so great. Maybe with a new coach , it is just what he needs. And as I said, he may yet be captaining from the wing.

Whatever happens, I will be supporting him as our Captain. The guy is a bloody legend. I dont think he should be in the starting 13, but it is a new season and I will be backing him.

Most people here are missing the point, it is a shrewd business decision imo.

- to most roosters supporters with a casual understanding of the game, Mini is clearly the most well known and popular player
- the role of Captain is as much about club/promotional work as on-field, Mini was the only one who was ready for this
- the on-field Captain is a fluid thing, driven as much by the performance of players and their position as official title
- JWH, Pearce, Cordner, Friend all have a strong potential, based on their role in the team, to "lead" on the field and from next year

It was a foregone conclusion and while it may not sit well with most of us, it was probably the best thing for the team.

According to most reports the players wanted Mini to have the gig so it keeps them happy and it keeps a major sponsor happy. And please don't lay the blame at the feet of Robbo, the last thing he would have wanted to do as a new head coach is piss the playing group off ala Smith. And this would have had a push from on high so he was probably following orders anyway.

The only good thing about this announcement, it's 1 season.
