  • Mitchell Aubusson

    Hi friends,

With todays announcement regarding our captain and vice captaincy group the big omission in my eyes was Mitchell Aubusson. He was considered a front runner to lead our club after Braith Anasta left and if memory serves me correct he captained our team in the 2012 trials and round 1.

12 months later young Aubusson is not even part of the vice captain group. With Boyd Cordner and Aiden Guerra recently re-signing and the potential for Sonny Bill Williams to stay longer 1 season I can not help but think Mitchell Aubusson's time at the club is coming to an end and this could be his last season with us and I also would not be surprised if he left mid season.

    What are your thoughts?

Apart from Friend, I think they were spot on. Friend really needs to lift his game this year, but JWH, Pearce & Cordner were all the right choices.

Purse - I agree with you. Maubs was actually my top pick so it is strange.

Pearce my only query on the leadership group.

            Decisions made today:

Minichiello (Captain). Given to Mini out of stupidity and also a small sense of sentiment. I respect Mini in every way and admire him for his past achievements, but giving someone a job which they are not good enough to do, just based on loyalty is not good enough. He had a horror season and loyalty alone should not guarantee him anything more than a spot in the team if he is lucky. I'm sorry for all the mini lovers but giving mini the captaincy was a massive oversight. Not everyone was born a leader and Mini is definitely not a leader on the field, nor has he shown any signs of leadership.

            Vice Captains

JWH- Deserved the captaincy the way he lead from the front last season. We were a different side when he was on the field and I challenge anyone to tell me otherwise. I remember one game in particular when we were playing in Auckland last year and the game was slipping away from us when JWH had left the field. When he came back on, immediately we looked a different side. We would have won had mini not been heavily knocked on the head and played the ball the other way around.

Cordner- Future prospect and very young. Well deserved and hopefully fingers crossed he stays injury free next year.

Friend- No idea where that came from. Obviously the Management have seen something we haven't. In 2011 he stood up in a very poor side. Apart from that, I can't see any leadership attributes especially during this season.

Pearce- Had to be given if we wanted to re-sign him this year. Leaving him out would have had him packing his bags and crying to his pop.

Aubo Missing out- I think if aubo doesn't perform this year he may be booking a trip to Ballina to help out James. Was one of the best backrowers in 2010 but hasn't found his feet since. Hopefully it changes this year.
            Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

Maubs, unfortunately, didn't deserve to be in the vice captaincy squadron, Pearce had to be in there. He will more than likely be the 'on field' captain, with Mini maybe only used to talk to the refs because of his standing in the game, which is higher than his standing in the Chook Pen....

Looking forward to Maubs playing a full season in the backrow.

They can't all be Captain. He's a bit quieter than some of the other boys. Think he would just be happy to not get shifted around.

I'm surprised at Friend being there.

He should be the stand alone captain. Maubs is our best footy brain and I can't remember him ever being in trouble

I rate him very highly. He had an off year last year but he will be back this year.
As for not being a vice captain, I think it's irrelevant as an indicator as to whether or not he will be a Rooster beyond 2013. So don't panic fellas.

Equally surprising was the omission of Marty Kennedy considered a future leader by some officials and fans. I wonder how dejected Maubs & Marty felt today?

I hope they are angry and take it out on Souths.
MK needs to assert himself as a consistent first grader cause in 2012 he wasn't. He was weak and passive like a damn schoolgirl. Toughness ain't his thing!

Agree 13 but i'll give MK the benefit of the doubt because he did come back slowly from a potential career ending foot injury.
I saw some good signs towards the final rounds of 2012 that got me warm & fuzzy. Like when he ran over the top of
St Merge prop Josh Miller and forced him from the field wondering what day it was...........that was gold He looks fit &
ready to go in the off season photos.

Aubusson will be flat out getting a run in firsts this year.Whos he going to replace,SBW and cordner have 2 backrow spots filled that leaves one to be contested by gurear, taka and aubs hed want to have improved a lot on his efforts last year if he wants to get a run.gurear would be my pick with taka off the bench.

Taka won't be in first grade if SBW is in the second row. He is creative in attack but has the worst defensive reads since Chris Walker. This leaves Guerra and Morbs competing for a bench spot unless Robo plays Cordner at lock, in which case there is room for them both.

Plenty of permutations to play out and I can't see that Aubs is out of the frame - at his best he is very good.
