Fitzy is actually registered on a $1 contract for this year and keeps his tape and boots in his bag at all times. If someone goes down, Fitzy will don the jersey and kick the goal.

He could have played on till he was 40 tbh. One of the fittest forwards I have ever seen.

I was at his last game And I remember that look on his face. It was one of disappointment, and he would have loved to had kept playing especially in 2010.
      Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

So many of our boys let him and the club down on that day... I'll never forgive that.

We had Fitzgibbon to play for as well as our pride as we were in line for the spoon. Big Artie and Freddy were on the sideline asking us to perform and we still couldn't show enough heart to hang in there for the final 15 minutes. What a disgrace!!!!

Wasn't there a scurrilous rumour about some of our players (who are no longer with us) throwing that game?

there certainly was. and i reckon theyre true.
it didnt just happen in that game, in a=quite a few games that season we blew early leads and got run down, sometimes by quite a lot. 2009 was a disgraceful year. lets just move on.

He was average in his last year. Always busted a gut, don't get me wrong. But was getting in the way. Legend no doubt, but his time was up in the NRL.

Agree unfortunately. Not one for bagging club greats but was on the steep decline his final year.
Hope mini comes to terms with his decline in playing ability sooner rather then later.
Most top level athletes these days can't seem to realise when enough is enough. They believe they can still perform with the best but don't seem to realise that they can't do it week in week out anymore. Take our cricketers, Ponting and Hayden are the two most recent I can think of that probably played that one season too long. The allure of the almighty $$$$ gets the better of them. As much as I don't like giving AFL a wrap, you see a heap of the older blokes pull the plug mid season because some one gives them the tap on the shoulder, saves them the embarrassment of playing that half a season too long.

theres obviously a degree of embarrasment as well. i dont think someone like ponting wouldve wanted to go out after a series of low scores. i reckon he wouldve retired after scoring a big 100, but it never came.

I remember hearing last year I think that Pearce had been practicing and wasn't looking too bad.. Cannot remember exactly where but pretty ute it had been start of last year when braith had been out, I no morts was the kicker while he wasn't there but I think I recall hearing it... My guess would be he would be part of a group of around 5-6 that would be putting in some sort of practice at goal kicking since he is a halfback and one day may be called upon...
