  • My fear if we miss the 8 this season...

Something I just thought of. We've put all of our eggs into 1 basket this season by spending our entire cap. I personally think it will pay off... but what if it doesn't? We'll:
    - Lose SBW (and potentially not even want him)
    - Be stuck with Jennings playing $hit for another 3 years.
    - Lose Mortimer and not want Pearce or Maloney... so basically have no halves.
    - Be jack of our coach before he's even started (and miss out on Bellamy.)
    - Have SFA left in the coffers to do anything about it.

Biiiig risk we've taken this year!!! All or nothing IMO...

What did you want another season of Smiff and Son and ElliotNess and Bwaiff and Mose and BJ and Perrett???

Without risk there is no reward.

        You know it makes sense.

          Ism = I smoke marijuana

Sbw and Pearce are off contract plus there is another cap rise being slated. Plenty of quality off contract from other clubs come end of season. I think the sbw deal is a good one as it ties up cap that we would have inevitably wasted on someone who is in form currently and perhaps not some rising star at he end of 13'

Maloneys form last year was worrying and validates why you shouldn't sign contracts 460 days before they are due for fruition.

Jennings length of term is the only risk that I see, if that is what it took to get him here than I guess we will just need to deal with it. 2 years would have been ideal but obviously quite unrealistic.

Every year is all or nothing, the last 10 have been nothing. Whilst some of those years have been enjoyable we still came out of them with nothing. It's farking with our aggregate. We are past due for an "all"

              - Lose SBW (and potentially not even want him).... but what if it doesn't? We'lland is extremely successful
              - Be stuck with Jennings playing $hit for another 3 years......he will be great and fresh in a new young team . if shyt happens he will in the jets- Lose Mortimer and not want Pearce or Maloney... so basically have no halves.why would anyone get rid of all but 2 halves- Be jack of our coach before he's even started (and miss out on Bellamy.)....bellache is a coach of a good team
              - Have SFA left in the coffers to do anything about it.....son we have depth...just need to have a look

You can't carry over unspent money to the following year so there is nothing wrong with spending the whole cap. I hardly think losing Mortimer is something to be worrying about either. You are worrying about losing SBW and also not wanting him in the same sentence, are you on some really strong shit this morning?

Jaggers has it right. It is all or nothing every season. I would rather the club proactively seek success as it has done this time around than deliver the crap of the last couple seasons by going out and buying broken down NSW cup wingers and hoping they will bring us success.

You actually can carry spare cap space over to the next year by forward ending a contract.
Clubs can and have paid players under long term contracts next years salary this year spare under that seasons cap, which in turn frees up that amount the following year.
Works similar to back ended contracts which frees up cap space up front...

I dont see us missing the 8 we are pretty solid all over the park with some good depth, I think we are in for a good season and all the newbies will kill it. It will come down to fitness and a bit of luck with injuries.

Missing the 8 under a new coach with a young squad isn't the end of the world.

In fact I think it'd be harsh to judge Robinson on this season alone because his say in the recruitment and retention was minimal given how late in the season he agreed to join the club.

There's a lot of potential in this squad that wont be realised for another couple of years. Evans, Cordner & RTS are all elite youngsters and one of, if not the best going around in their respective positions for players under the age of 21.

My only fear is we wrote off Moga too quickly and will loose something really special in the coming years.
