I disagree that he was a lazy defender. Granted he had poor fitness but I didn't see him do many lazy things in defence, a few bad reads but that is not laziness. I recall him chasing down a few backs over his time here. I put this down to the likelihood that he was a lazy trainer more than anything. With a better attitude at training, building up his fitness and learning defence a bit better I thought he could have been one of the best backrowers in the comp in the next few years. You can't deny he had talent, as did BJ, they just seemed to lack application. In those two they've lost imo the top 2 offloading backrowers in the squad and if they release release Cherro, Bosden is the only one left with any natural offloading ability. What's the point of buying Maloney if he's got no clever forwards to run off. If anyone else is to go it needs to be Arona, probably just ahead of Symonds when you consider the type of player LOD is. I feel this is the first backward step this pre-season, in what now seems to quite obviously be the club putting all their eggs in one basket and that is to win the comp this season while we have SBW. Hopefully it works, not least cos i put a hundred on them when they were at $21 before SBW was official.

Didn't someone once say that he played alot of 5/8 when he was younger, the Tits are very weak in the halves, they might play him there??

Well said man. This is how I feel about him too. I think Taka has more to offer than that myth.

He'll play centre I'd reckon. They wanted Maubs so they obviously don't have any problems playing a backrower there.

Cannot believe we are getting rid of talented youngsters to pay for the likes of SBW and LOD!

I was also looking forward to watching taka run around this year, I hope this doesn't bite us at a later date.

brad would have played firsts this year. he has alot of talent and this is the worst decision the club has made to date. brad is another anthony toupo, magic offload second phase. talk it up poor defence. huh . the whole team was poor in defence in 2011 2012. he will be missed and guerra may be a likely replacememnt. he will be a ball playing second rower for titts . our huge loss

I totally agree he now has a 3 year deal and might get more time in 1st's.

Cherro and mini's knees are going to haunt us forever.

This decision mirrors that of releasing Tamou and Shillo. Our club makes some stupid farken decisions ! Taka will have a breakthrough year this season.
                          Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

TBH BA I think he will play in the backrow. He has a mean offload and can run well in holes as well. The only time he looked good in the halves last year was when he was subbed in for Banasta in the last 5 mins of a game, and we almost won that game. It isn't hard to outshine Banasta though, especially at 5/8th.

Exactly mate. He was one of smith's project and probably the only one which worked. The others, Jono Ford & Arona, didn't show as much promise as taka did. Taka has some good footwork and a really good offload. I don't think that he will have played his last NRL game, which is more than what I can say for Cherro and Symmonds.

I think Arona has been more of a success than Taka on the field. They are two different types of players, to be fair.
Taka is the flashier player, but i like how Arona puts his head down and works. Very busy around the ruck.
