just confirmation of what everyone already new

Anthony Minichiello re-signs with Sydney Roosters for 2010 season

    August 28, 2009

Anthony Minichiello has re-signed with Sydney Roosters for one year ensuring the former Golden Boot winner remains a one-club man.
Minichiello, whose career has been hampered by injury for the past four seasons, made his debut in 2000 and the contract extension will see him enter his 11th year at the club.

Having finally made his way back to the field and absent of any ongoing injury concerns, the 2010 season sees Minichiello become one of the most senior Roosters players and an integral part of the team both on and off the field moving forward.

"Anthony is a valuable character to this club and we were delighted he decided to join us for another season," said Roosters CEO Steve Noyce.

"He is such a big part of the club and with 10 years of service under his belt we were obviously keen to keep him here as part of our future moving forward.

"He will take on a bigger leadership role from next season and we are looking forward to seeing him step up into that position."

Could that imply he may take over the captaincy?? since mini had the captaincy in braiths n fitzys absence, could this mean that he be made captain full time, or will anasta come back from injury and resume this role.

intresting decision for smith to make!

Gees you've gotta feel for Fitzy with that quote. I think he can offer atleast as much as Mini can. His workload on the field will be missed and what he adds to the young ones off the field, I can't see anyone replacing him.

I can't see Mini getting captain in front of Braith and JJ next year.

i agree buddy, like i said though its up to smith, he may take it off braith to ive it mini so he can concentrate on his game more. the same could be said about mini.

i still think jj is a couple more years of the captancy, i think next year his main focus should be gelling with carney.

it is a very intresting decision though

Fittler started plotting Fitzy's demise last season when he took the captaincy off him.

And unfortunately he managed to accomplish what he started before he got the punt.

His only accomplishment for the season. Typical that it was a bad decison.

Fitzy still has 2 NRL years left in him.

I'm glad Minichiello is staying, and I'm glad that the club got rid of blokes like Shillington and Shackleton (players who were solid but were never going to improve much more) as well as Soliola and possibly Sa (players who have had countless chances but never shown any consistent ability to fulfill their potential).

BUT, I am very angry that Fitzgibbon got shafted the way he did. To me, he is up there with Anthony Tupou, and to a slightly lesser extent, John Williams and Ash Harrison, as talented players essential to the make-up of our team, who were unfairly treated and discarded to accommodate for overpriced, underperforming purchases such as Mason.

            John Williams?!?!?!

I sacked him after his performance against the Warriors in 2007.

Regardless, he was the ideal replacement for Amos, who was always bound to go after his contract was up. He is young, fast, can kick goals, and had a truckload of talent. He is so far ahead of Sisa Waqa, Sonny Tuigamala, Iwi Hauraki and Smith Samau...

Last year, he played 20 games, with 10 tries. He also kicked 28 goals.

This year, he has played 17 games, for 10 tries. He has kicked 10 goals so far as well.

We could sure use him now.

For some stupid reason, Fittler loved Finch. Things turned sour between Fittler and Fitz when Fitzy blasted the useless merkin for shit kicks during the game against the raiders. Freddy's bum chum got released and thats when things turned on Fitzy. In hindsight I wish Fittler left the club after 05....Fitzy would be here until 2012.

The game has moved on from Fitzy. He is too one dimentional. Everyone talks up his tackling which is up their with the best, but as an attacking option he is just not good enough. He stifles our attack.

Would have preferred to send the bloke out on a better note but such is life.

As for Mini. Happy to see him stay on. No chance of captaining the side. He needs to concentrate on his football. A strong off season will do him the world of good. He needs to get back to fullback.

Somewhat agree, however i think most people are comparing him to our forward stocks. Compared to them, he doesn't rate too badly, however when put beside other 2nd rowers, he is moving past it.

However, he still has 2 very valuable attributes - Heart and Leadership.
In an inexperienced side such as the one which we will field next year those two points are crucial. I would of sacrificed the Waqas, Soliola and Kouparitsas to keep him for one more year.

Names that keep popping up as Fitzy like players are Stagg, Johnson and Hindmarsh. All are tackling machines like Fitzy. They all play plenty of minutes. But IMO also offer as much in attack as Fitzy. Hit ups and offloads but hardly penetrable. All are vital parts of their current teams. As many have said, take out Fitzy and who will step in to make the 40 odd tackles and play nearly 80 minutes every game? I can't really see anyone in our current line up and nobody I know of that we have signed for next year.

                        There's only 1 Nate Myles

Both stag and Johnson are in their mid 20's, Hindmarsh is 29 but has always offered more in attack then fitzy but there is even pressure on him to lift that side of his game. Aubosson at 22 years and similar size to those above would be my pick. Fitzgibbon is 31, I certainly wouldn;t be screaming at management for keeping him but I have no problem with letting him go. Big Mike made some good points on leadership, but Braith leads from the front and I would expect to see Myles take up a big role in that regard.

Early in 2008 alot of people were saying Fitzy was past it... he picked up his game and made Origin. 2009 he has been consistant in a poor team. Wipe the slate clean. Give Aubo a shot, and try Williamson in the centres.

Exactly! When you decide whether or not to re-sign a player, you need to look at the options you have for replacing him.

And we don't have that many with the leadership and attitude Fitzy has. I doubt Nate can consistently do the hard yards week in week out. And our other hope Maubs is stuck in the centres unless we sign some outside backs.

I would have left Kouparitsis at the Dogs and the Conman at the Titans, released a few nuffies and kept Fitzy for one more year at least.

There is no argument whether to keep him or not. He is gone and that's it.
But many feel he still had another year or two to offer while we find another in his mould. The statement Noyce made about Mini and how he has served his time yada yada yada. Why didn't they use the same commitment with Fitzy? He has given his all on the field and I can't recall any problems off the field (unlike Mini). He is a true leader and he would have taken little out of our cap yet we kindly tell him to piss off. Just some double standards IMO.

Anyway, I believe Jaubs is the one who needs to lift his game and can be that tackling machine we need. If not, then I really see no use for him as Friend has that number 9 wrapped up.
