I've been asked to come up with some strategic ideas around signing-up more members to our beloved Roosters footy club, and whilst I already have a bunch of broad-brush ideas, I was thinking that to canvass you sorry lot would be a great starting point.

      Basically, I'm grouping non-members into 3 categories:
      • Engaged Roosters: Watch most games either live, on TV, online streaming, radio, forum members, etc
      • Lapsed Roosters: Used to be into Easts, but have become disinterested over the years
      • Potential Roosters: Live in the area but don't have a team/don't understand the game

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to engage with the poll and where possible, provide your thoughts/opinions on why you are uninterested in becoming a Roosters member for 2013 (and beyond).

Im a member however many of my mates who grew up fanatical Easts fans seem to only go to a few games a year now. They have less interest since we lost the Eastern Suburbs from our name as it is the area they grew up in and team they followed. Many people still love the Roosters in the area however people didn't follow the club because it was called the "Roosters" they followed it because the club was called Eastern Suburbs and it represented the area. They feel like the club doesn't represent the Eastern Subs and there support has dwindled.

Now as much as I prefer the Easts name I can understand the club trying to broader the club and spread the fan base with the Sydney name yet it did drive many people away so I just think a good idea for more members is for the club to get out more in the community and remind people that Roosters is still the club in the Eastern Suburbs to support. I mean they should be doing membership drives at nippers along the beaches and going to schools as much as they can. Souths are everywhere in there community and it is an area our club really lacks.

The biggest problem the Roosters have in attracting fans from the Eastern Suburbs IMO is the fact that all the boys private schools in the area play Rugby & it has a high population of Jews who are not into footy. They had to broaden there area.
I agree with you that they should be doing membership drives at nippers along the beaches and going to primary schools as much as they can.
I cant work out why the private schools dont play League as well, St Gregorys at Campbelltown is the only school that I know of that plays both.

          For Salvo.
My mate who is the head ranger of Waverley Council & my brother who are both keen Rooster supporters are not members. I have said to them why dont you become members & they just say what for?
My brother lives 300m from the Stadium but he just has no interest in being a member. They attend games with there kids, they buy merchandise & they are happy with that.

Thought I'd ask it here, but I bought the $99 membership, and if for one game I'd like to sit in category 1 or 2, do I have to pay the full price or do I get a discount?

Maybe contatct the membership office & see what they can do.

I was thinking about doing the same for the souffs game. I'll probably contatct the memebership office myself in the next day or 2.

SG, I've viewed the thread twice to see how you're going. Now, I'm not a member yet but I will be once "The Battle of the Beaches" gets under way. Nevertheless, for seasons 2011 and 2012, I seriously considered not paying for membership as the idea of membership to the Roosters IS pointless in the sense that it confers no rights. Another reason was that I was just disillusioned with the club, the coach, the players, the form and the refereeing the Roosters copped.

I realise the above is of no real and current help to you but I thought the reasons why I would not have become a member for the previous two seasons might be of use.

Thanks TLR - it is very helpful.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed (positively).

                        --

I understand all reasons for not being a member - I myself didn't renew out of principle in 2010 after the debacle that was 2009, but as I get older I feel more and more strongly about 'donating' to the cause (so-to-speak).

The challenge from a marketing perspective is a case of 'who' to focus on. The disenchanted? The short-of-cash? The out-of-towners? Others? Roosters Marketing has no data on the demographic subsets within Roosters fans, so it's virtually impossible to gauge which group will provide the greatest bang-for-buck.

No demographic data? Looks like there's huge room for improvement.

You won't find better value anywhere than that $99 membership, very fair price.

To me the most important thing is to get as many kids on board as possible.

I know money is tight in this day and age for a lot of people. I think the club should just have a $20 membership option which just gets you a membership card and a scarf or something. And the right to say you are a member. Most people (well me anyway) join because they just want to feel like they are making a contribution to thier club/helping out etc. All the frills/benefits/merchandise don't really mean much to me.

Non membership related but when are we going to expand on the supporter merchandise? The last 12-18 months the range has dropped to almost nothing - in particular to online ordering.
