tbj I grew up playing with and against cherro and tom....I never saw it. Tom was a classic clubsman worked harder than everyone else but the talent wasnt there. Cherro got hit and stayed down. They have been given so many opportunities and had setback after setback. Maybe all they need is new scenery.
I have a mate who came through the lower grades for Manly (until he did his knee big time). He said exactly the same thing about Glenn Stewart. He said you could always see that Brett was a class above, but Glenn was just a toiler. He couldn't believe the player he had become.
I think Tom has the talent. If he can put a couple of seasons together without injury he could definately prove to be a handy footballer.
so Roosters re-sign local junior Tom Symonds/ 2011 news
Re-signs with Bondi club
Bondi United junior Tom Symonds has today agreed to an extended deal with the Sydney Roosters keeping him at the club until the end of 2014.
The new agreement comes at an exciting time for Symonds who has been handed his maiden representative jersey, selected on the bench for City for this Friday’s City v Country clash in Albury.
“This is a wonderful club and I’m really happy to be contracted here long term,” said Symonds.
“We have a great young team that’s been playing together for a while now, and I’m excited to extend my stay at the Roosters and continue to grow with this group of guys.”
2008′s Under 20s player of the year has progressed through the junior ranks from Bondi United, Harold Matthews, SG Ball and captained the Sydney Roosters NYC side before making his first grade debut in 2009.
His grandfather founded Bondi United, where Symonds played from the age of 5.
“We see Tom as integral to our future and he has the capabilities to progress to be a strong leader in our club,” said Sydney Roosters Head Coach Brian Smith.
“Apart from his great football talent, Tom is highly thought of by players, members and sponsors alike and we are very pleased to have him on board for three more years as we build to reach our full potential.”
Symonds joins fellow young players Mitchell Pearce, Jake Friend, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Martin Kennedy and Mitchell Aubusson on long-term contracts, falling in line with the Club’s commitment to developing its youth.

Wouldn't be that much though, would it? Anyway what's the latest on this decision, has he gone yet, is he going to Manly or ESL or is he staying????
Arty, I was told on Tuesday night by someone who I thought was quite reliable that he was going to Manly and it would be announced yesterday. Not sure if there has been a last minute change of heart. I will try to find out. Apologies if I spoke/typed too soon.
No offense to the original poster but there are now 9 pages of discussion and over 4000 views for a thread based purely on an unsubstantiated rumour. There has been no comment from the club and to my knowledge there have been no media reports about this at all, apart from Symonds being mentioned previously as a player who would/could make way for LOD along with Taka and Cherrington.

No worries Muff, there may have been some indecision behind the scenes, I hope he does stay, after losing Taka & Cherro I'd like to see how Tom does go under Robbo, apparently he's beefed up & looks promising, guess we'll know soon!

If we only posted based on substantiated information, there would be very little to talk about in this place.

Very true and it is one of the main reasons I frequent the forum. But still I have noticed an increasing trend to accept any half rumour as an absolute truth.

I hope he stays too. He's a good fella and I'd love to see him 100% fit again.
However, it is still on, from what I've been told.
