Nope. Fitzy has had two years of "i'm retiring, no I'm not". he was slated for the football manager job in 2009 (hence Rovelli's sudden departure) but he stayed for a further season. During the season he asked for a 3 year deal and Easts said no, one year increments only, so his manager got a big UK deal. it was dependent on Hindmarsh's not taking up the offer, and once Hindy stayed, Fitzy was signed.
B. Smith was signed just two weeks prior to the announcement and was not even considered a candidate in the early rounds of interviews.
there is no connection.
But i bet he wishes he could stay now...
