I noticed in the warriors game he was getting pushed back almost everytime he mad a hitup. Checked his stats only made 60 metres from 10 hitups. He is massive and should run straight and hard like RTS does. Early days for him I know but something he needs to work on

Already discussed in another thread but agree - he gets pushed around too much.
I don't think he is massive or a powerful runner. He does not look strong at all, looks tall and lean but definitely not in the Israel Folau mode or Hodges. Just lean and tall.

He should run lower like Perrett, or like a forward and be near 45 degrees when hitting the line, so the legs can drive. A winger is easily taken over the sideline if he stands too upright in the tackle, the winger also needs to find the ground when in trouble, or else be pushed around.
I guess he was never small as a kid, so he may not of had to learn this skill.

I think it is because he is making sure of ball security I would rather he did 10 hit ups and make 60 metres no errors like the other night as opposed to 10 hit ups 100 metres but two errors coming off his line A lot of errors made by wingers taking it up out of their own line are a result of trying to make too many metres and forgetting about ball securityWhen you trust your television

For mine I think he will be the goods. Give him time, he has only played about 7 first grade games, is 6 ft 5 so he will take time to develop but I think the skills are there. Remember Sisa Waqa was supposedly a cross between Greg Inglis and Israel Folau and we let him go and is now a premiership player.
And if you look at the 2012 GF he (Waqa) played pretty well."Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

It's strange. In the Manly trial as I reported he hit the ball up very well. Was making 10-12 metres every run and was not dominated once. Played like an extra forward. Since then his carries have been poor. I disagree with those saying he lacks strength. When he has a small amount of space he fends well and breaks tackles with ease. But when he runs into a straight line they get him around the ankles and up high simultaneously so he gets put on his back and can't do much about it. Needs to work on his footwork at the line and body position into the tackle. If he cant lean forward into the legs tackle more he should land on his stomach more often than not. He is quick enough to the line and makes enough metres before impact to surrender for a quick play the ball. Running harder is not the solution, running smarter is.

If he's used properly as a bomb contesting winger he'll be go good. So far we haven't really given him good quality bombs to contest and that's up to our halves to work out and execute. He's an absolute gun under the high ball which is his major strength. It's not like Oldfield is much better, nor Henry or any other option we have. Give the kid time, he doesn't need to be a yardage player to be effective for us. RTS does that enough and has taken that role from Perrett on the other side. Toups should be used primarily as giraffe under the high ball (like Falou was)

Just getting use to the physicality of first grade. Even SBW coming back has stated he needs to get use to the impact.
Both wingers have a long way to go, but the great thing is they will improve week to week... unlike some of our past wingers, for these blokes the sky is the limit.
