Having a player like Maloney makes you realise just how cringeworthy bad Pearce is.

I can imagine buzz wetting himself at the chance of doing another one of his lovely countdowns.

He pushed up hard when the Bronc's went wide, forcing the play inside to be cleaned up by SBW. Bronc's have no speed so it worked, but i hope we don't try that against Melba, Slater will slaughter that play.

So far our three major signings, Maloney, SBW and Jennings have been shining lights for us! Great season ahead me thinks!

For those who said he wouldn't be what we needed, especially you 6, you can stand corrected now

Jim Jim is the real deal. The only concern is how much he shows Pearce up
I don't actually think we have seen anything that great off Baloney as yet mate. Certainly nothing any better than PearceOrf has done.

I've seen Baloney make some mistakes with the boot and ball in hand but of course the gushers ignore that, we have other scapegoats to take the heat for the newbies.

I do believe he has a lot of improvement especially in the team structure naturally as over time he gels with the rest of the team. Which is a positive thing.

I don't follow the sheeple line that all the buys are shiney and new compared to what we are used to so everyone gushes all over them.

                I'm actually surprised you're a gusher Teabags.

Not saying I disagree with the sentiment you express here but I will judge them all, new and old, later in the season after the honeymoon of gush has passed.

Where he's really impressed me is in defence. Very solid combo forming with AV in that area.

More like how bad Anasta was for all those years! As far as I can see the only thing Pearce is not doing well is his short kicking on 5th tackle options, otherwise he has been terrific & still learning new combos he is only going to get better this year. I also would like to see his onfield leadership skills improve this year, but as he is still only 23 yo that too will come with time, but I wouldn't expect you to see that Coggy, you get too much satisfaction out of putting shit on Pearce & or Friend.

Jim Jim as an attacker vs Pearce as an attacker = no comparison

Jim Jim will prove to be our most valuable player

Can you imagine if he got injured? What would we have, Pearce and Mortimer in the halves? Scary thought

                      Plus one on that.
I just hope that it comes good cause we really need a coupla halves that have this option.

Maloney is a great hole runner and support player always has been. I think Pearce is the more creative of the two but the least likely of the two to break the line.

As HC said Baloney is a much better hole runner and support player. PearceOrf is very good at putting runners into holes hence his always high rank in the line break assists stats.

What will be great is when they combine those two strengths, PearceOrf putting Baloney into holes. I like the way the coach has them playing, often as a traditional 1/2s combo not always one side of the ruck each.

I'd like to see Baloney do more of the shorter kicking looking for repeat sets. PearceOrf just can't get that aspect right.

IMO Mortein is very much like Baloney, great hole runner and support player. From memory the few times PearceOrf and Baloney played together, round 1 last year at least, we have played well.

As BA said also it's more a refreshing look seeing Baloney wearing the 6 instead of Bwaiff. I don't play the PearceOrf vs Baloney game. I don't have the gushing vs baggage problems others do. I see them as complimenting each other more than being a contest of popularity for the fans to rate in polls and stuff.

As I said I'm surprised by your take on this Teabags. I thought you looked more rationally at the game from your past posts. I never pictured you as a fanboy.

                                For what it's worth Tony I still stand by my original comments;

Maloney & Pearce are both halves that thrive on playing within a strucutre, what we need is someone who can play outside of a structure. Johnson complimented Maloney so well because he did that, Carney complimented Pearce so well because he did that...

                                I think Maloney's a great player, I just don't think he's a great fit.
Think about everything Maloney has done this year and tell me it doesn't shadow the role of a good supporting fullback. It's why playing him as a traditional 5/8 was a stroke of genius from Robbo. If we'd split he and Pearce on either side of the field he'd be required to do too much of the playmaking and we'd lose his good running game.

Maloney playing well doesn't surprise me at all, I said all pre-season he would. I still maintain for the balance of the side we need a creative playmaker next to Pearce. I'm just hoping that comes in the form of Sheck at fullback otherwise I do worry about our ability to put points on against the best sides in the competition.
