  • Passing

Now I'm very proud of our effort tonight, but did anyone notice our passing tonight. I watched this very carefully and noticed a lot of loopy and lolly pop passes being shovelled out and up to the upper chest. This made the player receiving have to pause wait for the lobby pass while the defence was rushing onto them. Hence also slowing our momentum in attack. This was not just jake, it seemed to be various and different times. I was a little frustrated at the lazy look of it, the guy I was sitting with also noticed this...

I notice this because I watched the Waratahs yesterday and saw the difference in the crisp and out in front passing they continued to have through the whole game.. Very good momentum gainer..

    Just my thoughts

It is one of the basic skills, that these days, appears to get little attention in junior league.
It surprises me how many kids are not shown how to pass at an early age.
These days kids learn to pass while playing footy, and under pressure from defenders.
One of the best training tools is the old, "circular hole cut out of plywood" and get the kids to pass both left and right through the hole, and of course practice, practice, practice.

Mate they get told how to do, and supervised and coached HOW to do it as kids..but its something kids just are not generally good at...hand eye coordination improves into teen years thats when you notice better passing skills..i can assure you it is the main thing a coach tries to teach a kid
Biggest problem lies in the nuffies they have coaching the kids, alot of places its the town drug dealer or alcoholics who know **** all about coaching or kids, they know how to pass a ball but thats about all.. just what they watch at the pub every sunday arvo

Believe it or not, but the 10 year old ball player in our team has been catching and passing since before he could walk.
He has an awesome pass for his age and size, horizontal, pin point accurate, left and right.
He appears to have time on his side when he passes, he turns the hips looks them in the eye, and then passes, that's if they are in a position to take the ball.

Its like he "engages the brain" before passing (or making other maneuvers).

Many kids use the pass as a last resort, a spur of the moment thing, a panic pass.
For example, they may just, throw it over there head, because there heading to the sideline, or try the impossible pass, the inaccurate pass, or the receiver is not expecting the pass.

Some coaches of Mini/Mod Junior League footy, may see winning as the most important ingredient, they tend to use only there best runners, to just hit it up, one out, hoping the skills of there best kids will break the defensive line. This does not promote good passing or teamwork.

I think that the passing was sensational when it mattered.

                  Maloney > Pearce > SBW > RTS > Try

Those passes were perfect. All the passes were taken in stride and ran onto in perfect timing with the exception of the final ball which was a bit high.

I'd agree. Remember that this was L->R passing too.
It's scientifically impossible for Easts to be in Souths' shadow when there's daylight between them and us.

The passing last night was better than I've seen it in years as everyone was trying to promote the pill. Watch it again, as soon as the ball hit the ground from a parra fumble, all our players were on their toes and eager to promote the ball via the hands, that's a great sign. Sure some looked sloppy, but the ball was moving in the right direction.

                      Chook.
