  • stat we have to change urgently

due to our poor discipline via ball control/penalties and inability to force opposition restarts, we have been already been forced to make 1688 tackles this year so far which is more than any other team, it is 50 more than the next worst team in the comp in Cronulla.

you could see the players were very tired on sunday night and this is a direct result of the defensive workload they are bringing on themselves, a perfect example of why our go forward was so bad on sunday night was JWH was forced to make 41 tackles in 51 minutes game time which is way too much for your main go forward prop.

if we don't turn this disturbing stat around, we will be put to the sword by the better teams in the competition.

Wow! I had no idea he made that many tackles. Like you said, he should not have to be burdened with a defensive workload that large. It is no wonder his go-forward suffered on Sunday. ..

I am finding it hard to understand why poor discipline has occurred across a stretch of four coaches, nine years, different players and different officials. Start fining the players in some way (other than cash) for dumb penalties? Something has to be done though because if the trend that you've identified fletch continues throughout the year, the Roosters will fade.

defence systems are there... but when we're fatigued it all falls apart.... need to pick up discipline asap... we cannot afford to give opposing teams a piggy back up the field.

ban a player for one match when they reach a cumulative total of 10 penalties?
2 matches at 20 penalties, 3 matches at 30 etc etc.

I was just about to bring this up myself. I saw on foxsports that we make an avg. of 324 tackles per game, which leads the league. And like you said this is linked to our error rate, penalties conceded, and to a lesser degree the fact that we haven't forced a line dropout since about 2004.

It is definately something we have to fix. What is encouraging however is the fact that despite leading the league in tackles we are
4th in the league for missed tackles, averaging 20.8.

These figures are all related. Control both the ball and the penalties means you have less tackles to make and this leads to less missed tackles
