I'm thinking the more repeat sets we give the opposition - obviously the better off we will be. For mine our kicking game, the right side defence and Jake Friend to create more are the areas that need the most work and not our front row forwards.

I can't fault JWH or Sam Moa for their work ethic and I can't wait for Tasi to get a run. Kennedy will improve too.
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

I agree with the poster who questioned the balance of our forwards. I believe we are short on genuine front row forwards as I believe both Jarred Warea Hargreaves and Lama Tasi are converted props which leaves us with Martin Kennedy and Sam Moa as our only true prop options. Jarred and Lama both perform admirably, particularly Jarred who is more often than not outstanding, but we do find ourselves short of a genuine prop which costs us the advantage up the middle.

I am certain that Dylan Napa will be used in first grade before Kane Evans and will adapt faster than young Kane. Dylan Napa is truly the one we need.

Is Napa mobile enough to play lock? I can't help thinking he's the perfect replacement for FPN. I know his defence is excellent, and while he will probably end up exclusively as a prop, while he's still got young legs I'm sure he could be effective at lock or second row.

            Chook.
James Tamou & Matt Scott just re-signed for 600k. I wonder if you think those were bad signings too?

400k is what the top props used to sign for under the old cap, so 550-600k sounds about right under the new one. Given our lack of workhorses in the pack I'd be willing to pay even that little bit more for one of the best in the game. 500k is a very fair sum.

The Bulldogs had two of the best workhorses last year in Graham & Tolman both on ~400k contracts under the old salary cap, look how much that hurt them...

Tamou and Scott are representative front rowers, Tolman is not and not worth anywhere near what they get. Tolman is a toiler in the same vein as the Yak, do you think the Yak was worth 400K under the old cap or 500K under the new one? If you want to compare Tolman to a current player Shaun Fenson is my choice. Watch his hit ups, does plenty of them for the Raiders and rakes up metres but they are largely ineffective and more often waste a tackle.

              Chook.

Bit harsh on Fensom....he's a much better player than Tolman.

Tolman's been great for the Dog's this season however. He's led them to one win from 5 games as their number one front rower. I can see why teams would be falling over each other to sign him.

update..1 from 6, with both 1st line front rowers out, everyone is going hard at the Dogs in the middle of the field.
You need at least 3 absolutely dominant front rowers to win the 2013 comp otherwise the play the ball will beat you. we aren't there, but we are well on our way.

Spot on. He was legless again tonight. His stats might look ok, but he wouldn't bust a grape in his wildest moment. Great fantasy player, but a run of the mill NRL player. As I have said before, if he was so great why have two of the best coaches in the game moved him on?
