What a difference massive key signings make, that's why i was carrying on during the last few years to buy buy and buy. The best offseason since perhaps the 70's is already bearing fruit.
If only the club had listened to you years ago......
That's one thing, the other is who we got rid of; Anasta, Smith, Elliott, Smith, (Justin) Carney, JP.
I've included that and the coaching/ CEO change. That's why this was the best offseason since perhaps the 70's. In 2002 most of the base of the team was already there, we made the eight in 2001.
what was our completion rate in the second half? Must have been upwards of 85% ... great signs about our fitness especially with the short turn around. I havn't seen that much mongrel in defence for a long time ... 4 and 5 in the tackle in the dying minutes says a lot about our attitude this year. That Moa hit to put that doggy to sleep was icing on the cake!
Not only did the team learn something from last week, so did TR. Best use of interchange I have seen is a long time; clever stuff.
A fresh Jake and he was on fire and we lost nothing when Mortimer was on the field.
Highlights;

Maloneys kicking and game
SBW
MAubs tackle on Reynolds

Man when we win it's absolute! Very proud of the boys and quietly stoked about Robinson doggies not so good tonite is it manly next week? Interesting to see how our defense goes up against good halves.....
they had zero to cheer about were very quiet with lots of coppers in attrendance! no flares were let off no fully sick jihadi fans got to go to paradise, a very quiet game from opposition nutters, might be a bit bigger against merge on anzac day!

It will be full of Roosters fans coming out of the woodwork. Merge fans are a little wary of us now. I work with 4 guys who all follow them and not one of them wants to come along. They were all hanging around my desk yesterday saying how they all hoped we'd win last night. Robbo has brought respect and self belief into our side and people are now taking notice.

It's interesting to note that when we played them in the trials Foran, DCE and Lyon all played the full 80 mins. The lacked a bit of creativity out wide without the Stewart bros but still they didn't look like scoring until they got a barge over in the 77th minute. I understand it was only a trial, but we have certainly grown since then. I think the teams we will struggle against will be those with big powerful forward packs, not so much the ones with good halves. Souths and Canberra have the biggest packs in the comp and they steamrolled us. We might be able to hold these teams out for a while but as the game wears on all the inferiority in the forwards and subsequent tackling and concentration takes its toll. How Friend develops out of this game will determine the a large extent how we go against those teams this year. When Tasi returns to the top grade and Evans gets a run I'd say mid year I think our forward pack will go to another level.
How did the 20's go?
Anyone there give us a bit of a run down
20s won 34-30 mate. Great game of footy actually, plenty of momentum swings. Our best period was between half time and 20 mins to go. This is where we took the game from the dogs with three tries. Best performers were Samisoni Langi, Taane Milne, Brandon Tago, Rhyse Martin and both the Meehan boys, Willis in particular. Missed the first two tries. We were up 10-0 but Dogs made it 12-10 straight away. Langi has an exceptional left foot step that makes it look like he's breaking the line with ease. Milne's footwork is great and his defence looks strong, got great technique for an 18 year old. Missed his try but he created Goodsell's second by twinkle-toeing around his centre drawing the winger and then putting a gidley flick onto Goodsell's chest. All class that try. Looks quicker than I first thought as well actually. Could be a future wing option for first grade if he keeps developing. Tago is back to his best hitting the line with pace. Can't wait til he gets his offload back. Martin led by example as usual. Called for the ball short side on the 5th 15m out as first receiver and ran a great angle to carry 3 over the line and score. For the time we had Tago, Louis Meehan and Willis Meehan as the 3 tight forwards we absolutely steamrolled the Dogs pack. All three are so fast into the line. Willis in particular is an absolute beast. He'll play first grade within 2 years without a shadow of a doubt. Was making 15m a run and these were the hard runs out of trouble most times. Just looked way to big for the Dogs forwards. Very mobile too. Brilliant tackling technique as well, gets very horizontal and kept putting Dogs forwards on their arse. Made some very important diving tackles on the Dogs small quick man when it looks like they'd created space. Would have scored after he moved to the second row from a charge 15m out where he was carrying blokes but they raked it to stop him, got a penalty anyway. The stats say he scored but that was Siejka, they have their numbers mixed up on nrl stats too. As far as i'm aware this was his first NYC game and his intensity was first class for a 17/18 year old, pumping up teammates with words and actions. Played 30 mins at prop and then the last 20 on the right edge. Super impressed by this kid!!
