  • OK, so what's Conn now done in order to be given a spot in the 17??

If anything he has less right than Cherrington to be placed up the pecking order!

He's a NSW & Qld Cup player who's biggest claims to fame are being caught for forging medical scripts and taking part in a recent music video clip for some Aussie singer who's name escapes me. And believe me it was not his footballing talent that scored him that role.

Again, he's another bloke who should be starting with the Jets and proving himself there before being considered for anything else.

He was bought for the specific purpose of replacing Fitzgibbon. I assume he will get first shot.

Maybe under Farkwit Fittler who recruited him. That may change under Brian Smith (I hope).

** Although full-time squad 2010, still NYC eligible

That's just about all I know at the moment. We're assembling a very, very strong side for next season. If we field anywhere near a full-strength side, we'll be one of the top sides next year.

            My full-strength NYC side 2010

            1. Cheyse Blair
            2. Hughie Stanley
            3. Ryan Williamson
            4. JP Du Plessis
            5. Fine Moeakiola
            6. Brad Murray
            7. Ben Jones
            8. Isaac Maliota
            9. Samuel Brunton
            10. Pakisonasi Afu
            11. Boyd Cordner
            12. Joseph Leilua
            13. Jerome Leolahi (c)

            14. Tom Pelo
            15. Olireti Samuelu
            16. Ethan Lowe
            17. Samson Manu'a

That is a great NYC team. I included Ben Jones in the NYC side because I just can't see him getting a run in the top 17 in first grade. No doubt he is a good player but there's just no room to fit him in so I'd play him at 7. He needs to constantly be touching the ball to be used effectively. He played there in SG Ball and was their best player by far. I didn't include Jake Friend because I don't think there is even the slightest chance of him going back to the NYC next year. And if Ryan Williamson, Boyd Cordner, JP Du Plessis, Joseph Leilua and Fine Moeakiola don't move up to NRL during the year, this side will be very dangerous.
Thanks Footy for a very comprehensive update as usual.
            Q. I didn't see Asopeli Fine's name anywhere? Is he still contracted or??
            Q. What can you tell us about Tim Burrell from the Dogs? They rarely let good one's escape. I do hope we get their giant Pakisonasi Afu.

BTW, i pretty sure we parted ways with Dane Cordner because he would be over 20 next year.

            Cheers.

Sorry I forgot about Asipeli Fine. Yes he is still contracted with us although he will start in SG Ball before moving up to NYC after that season is finished. Tim Burrell is a frontrower who IMO is a good player although needs to be developed a bit more. He played one NYC game for us in Round 23 and injured himself, getting surgery on his knee. He originally hails from the country. And Pakisonasi Afu is a monster. If we get this kid, he will run rings around the other NYC sides next season. Very explosive player and has a tonne of speed. I'm pretty sure Dane Cordner is eligible for NYC next season, as he was playing NSW CHS Under 18 in 2008.

Asipeli is a waverly college kid, one of a couple from their first XV that have signed long term deals with the roosters. He is a promising centre for his age.

cant remember his name but he is a big unit forward, one of waverley's best. i can get the name for you if you want it.

the other good thing with these kids from waverley is that not only are they talented but they are also rooster fans themselves.

And that is something that money can't buy.

As for Dane Cordner, I really would have liked him to stay for his qualities as a good honest player and also because I like the symmetry of brothers playing together. And from what somebody else wrote about both Dane and Boyd, they are uncommonly tough, and that is something I would like to see the Roosters hang on to for as long as they can.

                        • Jack Wallace maybe ?
I also saw a kid play for Cranbrook this year, their fullback, wonder if the Roosters are looking at him. No idea of his name and although he may need to bulk up he really impressed me with the way he ran their side around the park. Cranbrook were reasonably ordinary but this kid impressed me with his organisation.

if we want a good young fullback, they dont come much better than charlie wakim in the CAS comp. Top class player and way better than the cranbrook kid.

As for the other waverley kid, I think it is wallace btw - he is a great player - plays prop in union but is built more for league. Aside from him they dont really have anyother expceptional forwards that would be suited to league from memory.

completley agree mate but im 99% sure that dane has been cut lose. He does still have a year of NYC left in him from memory as well. As you say uncharacteristically tough, no-nonsense and a real aggressor. Also has a big heart, massive workrate and is quite nimble for a frontrower - cut out for the modern day game imo

                              • its not wallace. if it was an easy name like wallace then i would be able to remember it. its not an easy name to remember.

i thought dane cordner should be kept as well, hope he is.
