    Captaincy carrot for SBW?
The Roosters are deep in negotiations with Khoder Nasser to extend the contract of Sonny Bill Williams for a second season in 2014. Club supremo Nick Politis regards him as such a strong role model that there is even talk of offering him the captaincy when Anthony Minichiello retires, which could be at the end of this season. Sonny Bill would certainly have to make himself more available to the media if that was to happen. Previously the club had seen Jake Friend and Mitchell Pearce as captaincy material but the carrot may see SBW decide to extend his tenure at the club – despite overtures for him to return to rugby. Sonny Bill's return has been one of the big success stories in the NRL this season and has seen the Roosters attract a whole new legion of fans, as their ground record for the ANZAC Day win over the Dragons showed.

    Loyalty over cash for Aubusson
Both the Dragons and Titans were chasing Roosters back-rower Mitch Aubusson, but he accepted nearly $100,000 less to stay in the red, white and blue for the next two seasons. A fine hole-runner out wide who plays above his weight, Aubusson is a model citizen and the Roosters are delighted to have him back on board.

Sonny-Bill would make a great captain IMO. He is a natural leader and an obvious choice if he wants the role.

Whatever it takes to keep him here, do it.

Captain should be someone who genuinely loves the club and has earnt the right through years of loyalty & service to the club.

No player is bigger than our club. I hope Robbo see's it this way.

He has played 7 games and IMO that combined with what he has shown since arriviving at the club is enough to earn it. This bloke is immense. There is no one like him. Simple.

Sonny Bill is the man alright but i agree with 6, our captaincy shouldnt be used as a carrot.

Would the c next to his name make any difference to SBW?

A captain is someone who leads by example on the field.

Gone are the days where people need to show loyalty to clubs and have grown up in the system blah blah, there is no such word as loyalty anymore. Its all about passion during your time at the club.

Its all about leadership on the field and off it .... Everyone listens and looks up to Sonny.

Give him the captaincy and watch him step up even more on the field in 2014.

He says in the thread about Maubs re-signing for 100k less than other offers after his brother retired from the game because the Roosters didn't offer him a contract and he didn't have any interest in playing for another club.

Keep your head in the sand, yes loyalty is dead.

If Sonny comes back to NZ rugby in 2015 he shouldn't be our fulltime captain. I wouldn't mind seeing him captain a game or two if Mini is injured (in fact I'd love it if SBW got to be a captain of our club) but that would be a slap in the face to Pearce et al who are our vice captains

So Fittler should not have been made our captain?
