Captaincy carrot for SBW?
The Roosters are deep in negotiations with Khoder Nasser to extend the contract of Sonny Bill Williams for a second season in 2014. Club supremo Nick Politis regards him as such a strong role model that there is even talk of offering him the captaincy when Anthony Minichiello retires, which could be at the end of this season. Sonny Bill would certainly have to make himself more available to the media if that was to happen. Previously the club had seen Jake Friend and Mitchell Pearce as captaincy material but the carrot may see SBW decide to extend his tenure at the club – despite overtures for him to return to rugby. Sonny Bill's return has been one of the big success stories in the NRL this season and has seen the Roosters attract a whole new legion of fans, as their ground record for the ANZAC Day win over the Dragons showed.
Loyalty over cash for Aubusson
Both the Dragons and Titans were chasing Roosters back-rower Mitch Aubusson, but he accepted nearly $100,000 less to stay in the red, white and blue for the next two seasons. A fine hole-runner out wide who plays above his weight, Aubusson is a model citizen and the Roosters are delighted to have him back on board.
