I said if that's what it takes to make him commit long term..

Once you get a player this good you try as hard as you can to keep them..

You're kidding aren't you with that comparison?

I like Sonny, he's been nothing but professional and respectful since arriving at our club and we get him at a great price because we let him play Union and box during the off-season. It's a fair trade off but he's in no position to be captaining our club, our proud club. It's a slap in the face to the likes of Freddy, Fitzy, Ricko, Mini & even Braith who all genuinely cared about our club and put their heart and soul into the club.

If he wants to commit long term to our club then maybe we can entertain the idea but not until then.
          lmao.

          Chook.

I know what you mean but 1 year is not enough for me. If he would commit for 2 or 3 seasons then I'd be all for it.

Imo, don't see someone like SBW accepting the captaincy like that. All season and off-season he has talked about earning the respect of his team-mates. He is quite humble. Don't think he would accept it

SBW has already given a handshake agreement he will be with us for 2014.
The Rugby team Chiefs were quoted as saying they have no hope of him returning until at least 2015...

Its all about leadership on the field and off it .... Everyone listens and looks up to Sonny.

Give him the captaincy and watch him step up even more on the field in 2014.
He says in the thread about Maubs re-signing for 100k less than other offers after his brother retired from the game because the Roosters didn't offer him a contract and he didn't have any interest in playing for another club.

Keep your head in the sand, yes loyalty is dead.

Ley me rephrase.... Loyalty is a near extinct breed.

Sonny would be the first to say he doesnt deserve the C

Such talk of offering anything including kissing his arse to retain him would be insulting

He has made his promise & he will keep it, that's between him & Nick

The legalise is the only remaining challenge

Does it even say he wants the captaincy? I think he would be embarrassed to even be thought of as a captain for one yr.

SBW would have no problems following Mitch around the park

If we win the comp this year, there's no incentive for Sonny to stay. Mission accomplished.

If we get close (i.e GF loss or prelim finals) I think he'll hang around to finish the job next year.

The NRL will bend over to keep him in. Gallop was never keen on him but Smith or Greenberg(if he replaces the banker) will keep him. NRL would be stupid to let him go. With all the revenue and the bums on seats. We've already lost the likes of Hunt, Thorn, Will Tupou to ARU.
