The fact that your now justifying his appointment, despite your own criteria disallowing him, just proves that you obviously got it wrong the first time.
No he wasn't, you're right but at least he was committed to our club long term. If SBW is willing to sign a multiple year contract and not play any other sports in the off-season then maybe it's something worth thinking about. Robbo said last night that even though SBW isn't in the 'leadership group' he's just a natural leader who leads by example, so he's obviously got some ability there.

I just think it makes a joke of our proud history to give such an honour to a player who wont be at pre-season training & wont be here beyond 2014.

SBW is unlike any other captain that I can think of in our recent history, if you truly believe Fittler disproves that then fair enough but I think you're kidding yourself.

To be honest, 6, I doubt that he'd want it, because for him to take it on would mean that he HAS committed long term to the club. That's my reading of his nature anyway. I very much doubt that is in his current thinking. That's not to say it couldn't happen. If he does play again next year as has been mooted, the place will undoubtedly grow on him, and he may start to think it's not such a bad place to stay.

Oh, and I cast no aspersions on Freddy, believe me.... nothing could be further from the truth.

bit of news about Horrie's son

                Son of a gun
The son of Roosters great Kevin Hastings has wasted no time making a name for himself since bursting into the Holden Cup with the Dragons a fortnight ago. In two games, Hastings, a goalkicking utility back, has bagged 28 points. And he's only 17! Little wonder his dad's old club, the Roosters, are keen to sign him up. Dad Kevin has yet to see the boom kid play live - he's currently living in the USA where he works as a fitness trainer.

                  Captaincy for 1 season? No!
Captaincy for 3 or 4 seasons. Yes!

But hurry up and re-sign even if it is for 1 season. The attraction of the club to prospective players with SBW in the side is immense.

I honestly wouldn't see a problem with making SBW captain. He's universally revered and respected at the club so why not?

If Anasta can have the role then SBW sure as hell can. The rest would follow him ev ery day of the week.

Having said that, Cordner should be our captain for the next ten years.

I reckon JWH should be captain, he certainly leads by example.

You know the temptation is to say that Braith was a disgrace & should never have held the office, but I tend to think that he at least tried to honour the role, he just wasn't up to it. SBW would honour the role if he was awarded it, he could even warm to it, his background could even lean towards him being a warrior chief (is there anyway that could be construed as racist, cause it wasn't meant as such?).
