  • 3 areas to improve

Firstly, I am very happy with the way we are travelling at the moment. The most pleasing part of our game is our defence. Our attack is rushed & panicky at times, but our defence will win us many games.

We are a very good footy team at the moment, but if we improve in these 3 areas, we will become a great team:

    1) Penalties: we have improved but we are still giving away too many
    2) Attacking kick: whether it's the grubber into the in goal for a repeat set, or a cross-field kick to our wingers, we don't get this right often enough. Also we do not get enough 40/20's (only 1 this year)
    3) Attacking kick defence: this is not a huge issue as our overall defence is great, but we have problems diffusing opposition cross-field kicks. There also seems to be a lot of repeat sets against us.

The bombs that we have put up this year have mostly been spot on. It seems that people expect an attacking, try scoring attempt to finish every set where the simple territory game is the point of most of these bombs from 30-40 metres out and we have been holding teams within their own half because of them. Penrith were kicking from within their half a lot while we were in attacking positions mostly due to the territory advantage we had over them from kicking bombs. The concern over 40/20 kicks is also a minor concern in my eyes.

Patience - we looked a bit rushed and frustrated at times toward the back end of the first half when penrith kept turning up and we werent finding the line as easily as we have in previous weeks

        I will say this again.

        Mitchell Pearce cannot kick offensively.

Our attacking half is James Maloney, who got the 40/20 and the repeat set. I do not know if there is a command from the coach that the attack must go mainly through Pearce but this kills the team's attack dead.

Pearce is a brick wall in defence and can pass brilliantly but he's a hopeless kicker. Just like Michael Ennis. And Ennis is a hooker.
        SUPER DRAGON!

I reckon Mini is doing a fine job at the back and James is all over the offensive kicks. Mitchell seem to play better around him too.

And don't discount Mortimer as an attacking hooker - that was a revelation...

For mine the big problem is still defence (and conceding defensive penalties). I know we haven't conceded a lot of points, but you can only really look at the game against the Rabbitohs if you want to consider what will win us a grand final, and our right side liked.

It seems like the boys are not communicating enough in defence and were exposing RTS too much.

It will be interesting to watch that aspect of the game in the next "big 3".

i reckon we are more dangerous when putting a grubber kick in-goal then a cross field kick... boys need to build pressure from repeat sets rather than going for the constant cross field kick

the cross field kick is good, maybe use it less frequently though and try to build pressure by rolling it in along the ground

Agree with your post, with emphasis on our attacking kick. Our 5th play options were very poor yesterday

I've been saying this for years........and with Anasta also incapable of the in-goal grubber......we have had to wear more repeat sets against us than most other teams?
What disturbs me is the continual use of the high bombs employed against the Panthers. This looked like a 'Game Plan' from the coach......so persistent was Pearce in his duties?
If this was really a 'Game Plan'......Trent got it wrong IMHO and Manly will make us suffer if he lets Pearce continue?

                  Two things.

                  1. That isn't me under a new alias.

                  2. I beginning to have doubts on just how good Trent Robinson is.

have we scored a try off a cross field bomb yet? dont think we are exploiting it fully

Who accused you of being Halcro? I assume that's who you were talking about.

Also, you are too articulate to mess up the I and I'm.....
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".
