Arguable. Consistency Vs Flair and Unpredicatability. I would much rather Maloney who will be solid week in week out...And to add to that Carney chokes when it comes to big games (2010 GF, Origin etc).

Carney hasn't played a quality match since the Tigers semi in 2010.

Seriously, what has he done since?

        Nothing.

        Give me Maloney.

I agree with this. Carney is the most likely to produce something exceptional but is also the most likely to go missing or flake out completely. Maloney is safe, consistent, reliable and sometimes brilliant. I would take Maloney any day although I would not have said that prior to this season.

2010 Carney is one of the best individual players I've ever seen.

2013 Maloney is awesome, but there's no real comparison.

Carney took a mediocre team to within a match of a Premiership.

              I agree with Bansai.

Carney pretty much single handedly dragged us into the GF (only to lay an egg in the decider but that's another story). His performance against the Tigers alone kept us around in the play-offs. There's no way that if you replace Carney with Maloney in 2010 that we would have gotten near the GF.

              HOWEVER...

We are such a well rounded team now compared to 2010. Back then we needed Carney's individual brilliance. But in 2013 i think Maloney suits us perfectly and is perhaps better suited to this team than Carney. His hole running and short passing game are excellent. As as Carney's in fairness. But sometimes its about jigsaw pieces fitting into a puzzle and Maloney fits beautifully into our current team. So as things stand i wouldn't swap.

But yes, if you were a new franchise and picking one of the two as your first player you would take Carney everytime based purely on footballing talent.

Carney never performed in a big match for the Roosters besides the final 10 minutes of the Wests Tigers semi-final match or for his state of New South Wales. Todd Carney has also never consistently replicated his season 2010 form. His time is in the past of which I am grateful to have experienced but he was never mentally strong enough to be the man to build a team around.

If only the men in pink hadn't stood in the way, we could have been 2010 premiers

                    True.

There's still time for him though.

I wish him no ill will.

I'd love to see him towel them up in Origin.

                      No question about that.

I doubt we'll ever see that from him again.

Nor will we see what Hayne did in 09.

We will not win a GF cause there is a very important part of our defence that has not caught up to the rest, whenever a team kicks to our in goal we stuff up, souths decimated us through the air, a try through the air is enough to get our players off their game & makes other teams score again, souths kick, tap it back in broken play, then there big men walk in untouched, we need to diffuse bombs better against bigger teams

South Sydney took advantage of some players rushing up out of the defence and missing the ball carrier. St George an Penrith both scored tries early from cross field kicks and it did nothing to put the team down. These kicks are very difficult to defend against and come down to the luck of the draw in most cases. All it takes is a push in the back or a wicked deflection and it is a try.

It says a lot about the defence of the team that this is how teams have to score against us rather than putting it through the hands and running at Shaun Kenny Dowall.

I guess one good game in thirty is OK.
