For those of you who never seen Horrie play, he was the Alan Border of rugby league players, played in an era where we were a pretty inept side, and he had us in almost every game , all by himself, and we won a lot more games then we would of without him. Pound for pound, I put him up there with Raudonikis, for toughness, and a never say die approach, to his game. In a classy side, he would of been a world beater, instead of a team carrier, but that's life.
On the young bloke, Jackson, I assume if Nick wants him, he'll be a Rooster, so considering his tender age, I spose he is a worthwhile investment, looking to the future, and I for one, would get a huge kick in seeing Horries young bloke run out in the mighty RWB.
    So true

Horrie was the ultimate Rooster champion. Played so far above his weight it wasn't funny. Not just tough, but a real smart player. Went on to represent Australia at touch, and given his lack of speed, that's a remarkable achievement. Unfortunately he had Sterling and Steve Mortimer to compete against in those days, but I heard both of them on separate occasions refer to Horrie in interviews as the best half going around. One time both Sterling and Mortimer were injured when the test side was to be picked, and the headline on the back page of the Sun or the Mirror one afternoon was "It's Hastings at last!". But they ended up picking Mark Murray.

Once there was story in League Week about Horrie having bad bronchitis the night before a Roosters game, and how he went to bed with about 10 blankets on him, and his wife sat by the bed all night and kept giving him water to drink and fresh t-shirts to replace the sweat soaked ones with in an effort to sweat it out so he could play. He played.

There are no words to properly describe what it was like growing up as a Roosters supporter with Horrie in the side.

I remember that clearly. As a kid I was devastated.

I liked the look of him in the 20's, obviously he'll fill out his body but he was involved in everything.. huge workrate.

Looks equally as good running the ball as he does ball playing.

Horrie may well have, but Barry Andrews did that one day for the roosters in 80's. Remember him packing into scrums with the arm just dangling

Against The Sharks one day Horrie was running for the line and got tackled into the post - close to no padding in those days, god knows how it didn't kill him, but he played on and even scored later in the much, and as he ran around under the posts to put the ball down, he had a little look towards the post as if to say "Not gonna get me this time"

Yeah that was at the Sports Ground in 1983. No one could believe it when he a) stayed on the field, and b) played again the following week.

What a player. RLW player of the year in 80, 81, 82 and was beaten a point by Greg Brentnall in '83 -- and that was only because Horrie missed one game that year whereas Brentnall didn't miss any.

He had a mass of halves partners during those years -- Ken Wright, Fairfax, Warnecke, Alan Neil, Andrews, Laurie, Stevens, Eden and even Gartner a few times in '83 -- but it made no difference to Horrie. A lesser player would have struggled for combination, but not Horrie.

I don't know how many games he won for us single-handedly, when all seemed lost.

He could play centre, halfback, lock and hooker and handle them all.

He played 150 consecutive games between 1977 and 1982, before finally missing the 1982 grand final qualifier against Parramatta. Needless to say, we lost 33-nil that day.

He could kick goals, score tries, you name it.

If Jackson is half the player Horrie was, we need him.

Here's the famous photo of Horrie, taken after the 1981 preliminary final loss to Newtown. We'd been the best team by far all season. He looks totally dejected.

                          Tom,
                          Cracker of a post.
I met the great man once at an Easts event (might have been his life membership in a function room at SFS). His eyes lit up when I told him about the day he was stretchered off the Sports Ground when he ran into the goal post. FMD, 5 minutes later he ran back onto the field so as not to use up one of his team's substitutes. He is tough as they come.

I've always been in awe of his abilities but also his resilience as selectors continued to overlook him.
Mundine could learn a humility lesson from Horry.

I hope we secure his son.

Was having a meeting at SFS members today. Table outside was Trent, O'Sullivan, Nick, Sam Ayoub...And who I assume was Jackson and his Mum ( Googled and they looked pretty close) Didn't want to go to close but I reckon it was him.
