Not so sure about this decision tbh. Lama missed a lot of the pre season conditioning due to the knee arthoscopy he had. It's going to be a tough slog up there in townsville fitness wise and I'm not really 100% sure he will be ready for that. He always provides impact though, and with a full pre season i would have no doubt that he could do the same job Moa has been doing all year. Interesting that Liu has fallen down the pecking order so easily. I thought he was very effective in attack and defence in the games he played earlier in the year. Napa has been in excellent form for the Jets playing second row and lock. His defence looks better than Tasi's this year and you'd have to think his fitness would be better also given he's had numerous 80 minute games this year for the Jets. Guess its a lot to ask on going up against the Australian props on debut.

In saying all that, TR hasn't been wrong too much this year so i'm sure if he's picked Tasi then he is 100% ready to do the job.

I think the fact that Tasi's already tested in First Grade counted quite heavily, will be a very hard slog like you said. Someone on debut could get lost very easily in the pace and physicality of the game.

Let us look at the facts.

Hargreaves and Kennedy are pretty much the 'future' - both are valued highly by the club, seen as long-term prospects (evident in the length of their contracts), and will be pushed forward as leaders of our pack for years to come.

Tasi and FPN are the uncertainties - both have shown that they can indeed handle first grade, but they have lacked consistency and both have spent time in reserve grade. They are both off contract at the end of this year and will be hoping to take every chance to either cement their first grade spot with us and have their contracts renewed, or earn a new contract at another club.

O'Donnell and Moa are the stopgaps - both aren't on big money, and are relatively one-dimensional hit-up men in terms of their current contribution to the team. However they are doing well at making guys like the aforementioned Tasi and FPN have to work for their spots rather than succumbing to complacency which became all too easy under Smith.

Napa and Evans (and Tago to a lesser extent) are the rookies - not ready for first grade but the next cabs off the rank.

Good post & throws some perspective into the whole argument.

Given a recent interview with TR, he talked of body types and the need to balance your team. Given this, who is closest in physique to JWH?
Do you think this consideration will be heavily weighted?

Napa would be about 110kgs and maybe a cm or two taller. So he has the dimensions. But even more so the way he plays is a carbon copy of JWH. Aggressive in attack and defence. Doesn't dominate the contact like JWH does but his workrate would be as good if not better and he's all heart. He's got a bit of a pass before the line too like JWH. Not saying the bloke is going to be as good as JWH any time soon but as soon as i saw him play I thought Hargreaves.

Thanks Yak. Seems to be a good match for JWH and in line with TR's philosophy

Unless its a different article, they reported Napa "could" make his debut, not 'will'.

Tasi & Napa were pictured at the airport yesterday.

Of the two players you mentioned Tasi to my mind should be chosen, perhaps O' Donnell to starting prop with Tasi on the bench.
