  • Kane Evans?

Haven't seen any vision of him playing recently but given the "boom" he had on him I am surprised he hasn't been given any first grade time yet especially with JWH currently out.
I know LOD played well the other night but he is not really a prop and would hate to get caught out.
Anyone know why he can't crack it for at least a bench spot?

Probably a combination of the fact that he can be a bit lazy in defence and Robbo probably wants to see him mature playing against real men. A year in the NSW Cup would be a great lead up to his debut season in the NRL, it's the way to go for young props imo.

An attacking weapon isn't a good enough reason to put him in 1st grade according to Robbo. You must also have great/reasonable defense. It's for the best. We're in good hands.

Dylan Napa not named for Jets this week, 18th man for 1st grade?

I can't wait to see Evans in first grade like everyone else but we have loads of time. I hear he's been lazy in defence so keep him in NSW cup till he's ready. A year at that level will do him the world of good, as will for Napa.

Next year with possibly O'Donnell gone (cos he's on a 1 year contract) could be the chance for one of these 2.

Yep - his defensive efforts haven't matched Napa's in terms of intensity and commitment IMO, and in attack he has just too much Holywood about him, like 1 armed passes when 2 would be safer, etc.

That said, strategically teaching Kane that graft and consistency are critical traits at this stage of his career will stand him in good stead for the remainder of his playing days.

If he puts his head down it'll be his making. If he gets jack of it and buggers-off, then that probably says it all.

As much as I want to see him in firsts, Tasi is certainly more ready and as good a prospect imo and as others have said, there is no rush with Napa and Evans - both have long contracts with the club so its not like taking our time with them is going to cause us to lose them in the short-run which is the ideal position to be in

The coaching staff usually have a better idea than us he will fit in when they think he is ready for it.

from this we can confirm a real priority in the fg team is defence! as weve seen over the years defence wins games, a try save3d is a try scored!

Yeah for all the shit we give Kennedy, and much of it rightly so, he is a rock in the middle of the field. Very solid in defense and that's half of the game.

That's what has turned us into a genuine threat this season, our defence.

IMO it's more than 1/2 our game. It sets the game, defence.

That's why MK keeps getting picked over the reserve grade attacking heroes.

It's obviously what the coach favours.

Probably because Kane is another rangy back rower and nowhere large enough for prop.
LOD is a much better selection, given his experience.
Now is not the time to be playing rookies.

If 200cms and 116kgs isnt 'big enough' to play first grade prop, god knows how gallen does it in origin... I think the issue is a bit different to that - namely his workrate in defence and tackle efficiency. The last thing we want is another mose - good for 3 runs and 10mins a game but not much else

What the hell are you on about? LOD is half the size of Evans. Size isn't the problem.

Well he must've stacked on some weight since I sighted him last...about 12 months ago.
