he plays for souths so if course he is not rated here, if he was a rooster he wld be the best half since johns.

i for one love origin, get together with family for one match, school mates for another and current friends for the last, good chance for a few beers and junk food and not worrying bout the result but hoping for a good match and always a good chance of either getting hammered or hammering others for players from their supported teams costing the match.

good fun, enjoy it or why complain about it.

I think Adam Reynolds and Carney should be the halves. Reynolds has a vastly superior kicking game to Pearce and seems less prone to panic when a game is on the line. Carney has surprised me in the last few weeks. He is playing with a lot of maturity.

How so? A five-eight is someone who can play-make as well as run the ball well which Maloney does. And halfback is for someone with a slightly better passing game and does less running which Pearce does.

In the lead up games are players thinking about the game they’re playing in or are they thinking if I play well even if the team loses I’ll still play Origin?

Players can’t represent their club side and if/when they do come back invariably have to back up in a few short days. No sympathy for the Storm but how have they gone in previous seasons around this time?

I have no doubt players can improve having played at a higher intensity and with better players alongside them but is there a need for 3 Origin games...$$$??? A dead rubber is futile.

Then we have to put up with Phil Gould and his Churchillian speeches those 26 players (plus reinforcements (i.e. the bench) are going to war. FFS Phil it’s a game of Rugby not WW3.

My opinion is we have one game of Origin a year and the venue is alternated between NSW and QLD.

            Well, I’ve had my vent.
ding ding ding we have a winner. the games just a money grab. best footy in the world but who give a fcuk.

            i like a gf better

I think what is not being discussed in the Reynolds debate is the damage NSW does to young halves by bringing them into Origin too early and wrecking their confidence. Reynolds may well prove to be a better halfback than Pearce but rushing him into Origin this year with all the pressure of "8 in a row" could just as easily break him as make him and then NSW is back where they started.

As someone who hates Souths, I am good with that but as someone who hates Queensland I am not so sure.

Add to it things like the ongoing "Inglis is from NSW and under no set of rules was ever allowed to play for QLD" and it just becomes a farce.

QLD complained that they'd bail if NSW won 3 in a row so it's now been stacked in QLD's favour for basically a decade.

This has also stunted my interest in international RL because I'm sick of Gronk, Smith, Slater, Inglis...etc so get close to cheering for NZ in internationals (RTS, SKD, JWH, SBW...etc at least I give a stuff about those boys.)

The universal rule that Origin regulars can't get suspended for Origin is a joke too.

I was looking forward to Gronk being out because I wanted to see somebody else get a go.

0 Points for a dangerous tackle when JWH gets 10 in the bin + 5 weeks. When dis the word "fair" enter the world?

Granted JWH can't play Origin, he got a big punishment (and didn't "miss" an Origin game + has a bye, so is basically out for 2 months.) Gronk... escapes without a conviction. Slater... same for his head kicks.

Good point. Can you imagine what they would all be saying in the media if it was NSW that had won 7 in a row? They would be saying 'Origin is old, origin is boring and lost it's relevance. We need to do something to help QLD and put the excitement back into origin' etc etc etc. State of Origin is all about QLD and quite frankly I'm sick of it. You can add me to the list of Chookpenners who don't really care about SOO anymore and this let's glorify the maroons for 2 months of the year crap.

Came to life after about 30 mins & played well.

But, yes you are right. Not consistent.

No, the media has over exaggerated his performance and you have bought into it perfectly. I mean last season he only had one line break assist all season!!!!

Put any half in a team with good forward pack and other creative talents (inglis) and they'll look much better.

Pearce basically had no go forward and was right there in terms of stats with cronk. What reynolds does have is a great SHORT kicking game, that's it.

Their forward pack killed ours in rd 1, yet pearce could find space and Reynolds was kicking straight to mini.

No doubt from his bedmate.....Gus Goose who couldn't stop raving about him.
Seriously, the guy is overweight & lazy. A liability most times.

Another that Gus was raving about about was Taka.....once again did a few good things but went missing for a great part of the game.

Are you mesmerised by the Goose & believe everything that he spurts?

                                hilarious stuff chook

I watched the game and Idris had a blinder. Gould's assessment as to his improved fitness and mobility was spot on, even evidenced by his effort to get off the ground and apply defensive pressure which resulted in that break by Kelly

you shouldn't let your prejudices get in the way of reality
