As for making more metres if you divide metres by minutes spent on the field
at 10 games to qualify
Metres per Minute
O'Meley 1.79
Myles 1.74
FPN 1.72
Shackleton 1.67
Mason 1.44
Fitzy 1.23
Friend 0.50
If I were to add Willies tackling or lack of it makes him look even worse
Blame Fittler, he wanted us to lose, no 2 ways about it, was it a coincidence that just when Mason was hitting his straps and we had beat the knights, freddy droips mason to the bench and puts mini at 5/8???
Does he deserve his pay, no bloody way, never said he did, but by all reports if Pearces earns just as much yet its ok because he tries harder.
No matter who you are or what you do, if you dont enjoy coming to work, you will not be at your best and that goes for everyone, it is human nature.
As much as i respected the bloke, Fittler ****ed us over and i hate him for making me feel that way

The second part you seem to be going to great lengths to find excuses for Willies lack of endeavour.
Probably better to compare him against his peers. Those players who played mainly 2nd row and averaged between 50 - 65 minutes per game minimum 10 games
MPM
Ben Matulino 1.86
Sika Manu 1.85
Mark Minichiello 1.79
Frank Pritchard 1.76
Shane Shackleton 1.67
Willie Mason 1.44

Comes down to the same thing every time... it's not fair to compare INDIVIDUALS from losing teams against INDIVIDUALS from other teams.
When your team is winning, you're not defending the whole time, you're running the ball forward and making LOTS of metres.
You're less tired because you're not just getting bashed up... also when u've got a winning combination, the coach is less likely to take you off and change things up... so you'll play more minutes!
You'll score more tries!! Did you see the leading try scorers? They ALL scored more than the Roosters did combined in the entire season! Besides random one-off breaches, if you're team's getting thumped... doesn't matter who you are... you won't score many tries!
---
So I'll repeat it again and again... comparing stats of individuals in losing teams to individuals in winning teams is completely useless! Particularly when a team's only won 5 games in the season...
Put Soward or El Masri in the Roosters this seasons (replace Anasta... do whatever it takes!)... $1000 000 they would have had shit stats and there'd be lots of people saying they're shit.
I say judge the individuals on winning form. Judge the team on losing form.

These are Tackles per minute and Metres per playing minute stats for Locks who played on average 66 -80 minutes per game and at least 10 games.

Michael Luck 0.58
Craig Fitzgibbon 0.46
Ash Harrison 0.43
Glenn Stewart 0.42
Paul Gallen 0.41
Corey Parker 0.39
Luke Lewis 0.33
Luke O'Donnell 0.29
MPM
Paul Gallen 1.98

Corey Parker 1.14
Ashley Harrison 1.11
Glenn Stewart 1.10

If you were to actually were to assign points for position on a 10 to 1 basis and add them together Fitzy actually comes out on top the legend.

There alone we will have abnormalities in stats with fitzy being a noted 80 minute player, having more exposure to gaining more meters and making more tackles than someone like mason who has been used off the bench hence reducing his exposuer to the same time frame on the field as Fitzgibbon.
In all honesty, the argument of mason being effective is subject to everyones personal opinion, adding to that factors of injury, game time and other external influences.
To you mason is probably putting in less than 10%, to another he may be putting in 50% to another he may be doing 70%.
It is all down to personal opinion. Stats do not make them fact.

Regardless of what Mason may or may not be capable with under next years coach, at this point there is no way he has come close to earning the captaincy.
Every week there are the same 3 blokes putting in 100&, and one of those (Fitzy) is gone. Mason was not one of them.
