I think you will find that old mate HIGs was in the same boat as me.

Much love for the moth but past it as a fullback. Although quite happy for him to settle back into to a cosy spot on the wing.

      True HIGs?

For all the good press Mini is getting, the fact remains that his one remaining attribute, is he bomb taking, he is still one of the best in the business in that regard.
Having said that, most of the fullbacks these days are pretty good at that skill, but still have the ability to make valuable yards, when returning the ball, which is so important to get a new set of six off to a good start. Mini either makes little forward gain at all, or else he gets picked up, and driven back behind where he originally took the bomb, not a skill that is going to be an asset at the business end of the season.
I agree, he has been solid, and deserves to see out the season, but its one of the spine positions, and we need a top gun there, so take ya pension years in the UK Mini, enjoy an extra season or two, which you'll get there easy, and let your club move on.

Well if he is past it as a fullback now he must have been bloody awesome before.

            He'll do me.

                Mini could play another year.
In fact I'd sign him for 2014, play him on the wing and RTS at FB.

                Mini could mentor RTS.

So you are happy to have one of the worst fullbacks in the NRL wearing the no.1 jumper?

I can live with him playing on the wing. In fact he would do a decent job there.

The simple fact is that he lacks the requirements of a modern day fullback.

May be so but we have more than enough attacking options across the park to subsidize Mini.
I say this year his last is good enough for me.
I truly believe though he has developed into a good captain .

I'm pretty sure if he was one of the worst fullbacks in the comp we wouldn't be running 2 nd and a good chance of winning the whole thing....so he must be doing plenty right.

Why should a player be "subsidised" to the detriment of the team, based solely on what he did close to a decade ago?

Sure, he was a great player and will always be loved for his great loyalty and leadership.

However, he needs to step aside at the end of the year to give us the best possible chance of winning comps.

Any earlier would be a bonus.

are you happy putting him on the wing considering he doesnt have any speed anymore? if the irrational decision comes that he must be here next year i would prefer him be kept at fullback, instead of weakening a wing spot.

I hear what you are saying.

Fullback is one of the key positions. RTS could become an elite player in the next couple of years.

Mini would be solid on the wing. He would at least stay on his man and his overall positional play would be good.

He is a better option on the wing than Oldfield, Henry etc.

mate do u think thr topps-jennings try from the weekend would of been scored with mini on the wing instead?

also taking bombs/kicks on the wing is different to fullback as they are attacking kicks with the pressure of tall fast wingers running through, mini turning and chasing kicks may get caught out, at fullback he is positionally very good and he can attack the ball instead.

etc.......... could go on and on.
I'm sure there's a lot of teams that would love him on the wing for a year, and not just in SL.
You 're spot on I reckon.
Wonder why wingers have never been expected to have the passing game of Wally Lewis in the past?

Probably got something to do with the salary cap.
