If we are low on that list then maybe the repeat set stat isn't so damning?

Pearce goes for repeat sets basically every game.
I think all people want, is that if he goes for a repeat set, he stops the effin ball in the in-goal and we have a chance of getting one.
No one is saying we should stop scoring tries in order to get a repeat set. That would be preposterous.
It is about adding another dimension to our game.
We need this ability of gaining repeat sets in our armory for the finals, it seems to be very under valued by many on here which I can't fathom. It is only our outstanding defense which is preventing this from being a bigger issue than what it is, but come the big games against $ouff$ and storm it is going to be important! The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
Here's looking at you, kid.

I recall we deliberately turned ball over on the last or even 4th....in 2002. Fittler kicked long and dead on purpose. We hammered teams in their own 20, theyd cough up wed score.
When your best attacking weapon is your D, you dont need repeat sets.
For most a good short kicking game and repeat sets is mandatory. For someone with superior D, and a cracking attack in open play, not so much.
We are the exception that can get away with it.
there are definitely a number of similarities to this years side. our short kicking game has to improve and be more consistent though.

Agree with Brain and others that we have avoid the robotic approach to kicking on the fiifth
all about predictablility the 9, 7 and 6 need to be reading how the set is travelling and have options available .
we have got great jumpers in tupou and RTS - the fact that there appears to be no policing of defenders running chasers of the ball is nullifying this at times, still worth pursuing
jake has shown moments with his short kicking game such as his kick for Jennings against St.george
much as he gets a fair work over here Mitchell has a very good short passing game got us home against the cowboys and worked well with his edge runners throughout his recent games and remains a last tackle option. handing the ball back to the opposition 5m out and 15m in from touch is not so bad. Even the play that led to topou try from Jennings last weekend is an option.
no one can deny that having a quality short kicking game puts your edge defenders in a bind whether to come up or hold and it has to be part of the options available. they have to be convinced that there is a strong chance you are going to run the ballor put it through the hands to change the shape of the defensive line for short kicks to be effective otherwises its often going to be hit too hard and straight over the dead ball
