  • RIP Harry Phipps

The Roosters lost a good friend earlier today, i know he had a love hate with some of my fellow posters, however his effort in the organising the Billy Gunn night at Easts Leagues will never be forgotten.

Hope is is at home with his Roosters family in the sky

        RIP a great man.

I only got to know Harry from 2011 when he took Glenn's benefit night buy the horns and made it what it was. That's the only real Harry i got to know other than the funny crazy Harry that used to get up every year at the presentation ball and tell his funny stories much to Nick Politis's dismay. He was a unique character and I am glad i got to meet him. His passion for the Roosters and for the Sargoods( Billy Gunn) were unbelievable.

A very sad day. I hope the club can keep doing him proud this year as they already have so far.

        I am shattered right now.

                      Vale Harry Phipps

The Sydney Roosters have extended their condolences to the Phipps family, following the passing of Life Member and long-time club benefactor, Mr Harry Phipps.

Mr Phipps’ long association with the Sydney Roosters began in the 1980s and he is credited with initiating the Sydney Roosters annual end of season awards night.

The tradition has now grown into the Jack Gibson Medal Presentation, and over the years Mr Phipps maintained his support for the club he loved so much, donating the Medals named in honour of Jack Gibson (Player of the Year), Arthur Beetson (NYC Player of the Year) and Barry Van Heekeren “MOCCA” (Sydney Roosters Staff Recognition Award).

In the mid-90s, an award was named in his honour – the Harry Phipps Rising Star – recognising an up-and-coming player in the Sydney Roosters ranks. Previous winners include Mitchell Aubusson, Tautau Moga and Dylan Napa.

Sydney Roosters Chairman, Mr Nick Politis, said: “Harry was as passionate a Roosters supporter as they come and a wonderful friend to not only me, but so many involved at the club.

“His loyalty and passion for our proud club will never be forgotten.”

Roosters Chief Operating Officer Football, Mr Brian Canavan, added: “Harry was an immensely popular character with a generous and caring disposition. He touched the hearts of many people at the Roosters and will be sadly missed by all.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to Harry’s wife Kyoung-Sook and children Sam, Jennifer and Kristine.

In a mark of respect for Mr Phipps’ wonderful contribution to the club, the Sydney Roosters will wear black armbands in their Round 20 away match against the Newcastle Knights this Sunday, July 28.

Like Horry, I only got to know Harry over the last couple of years.
A man with some great stories and immense generosity. He will be missed and my thoughts go out to his family.

                            We've lost another club stalwart.

Deepest sympathy to Harry's family and friends.

Rest in peace Harry, and thanks heaps for all the very good and caring things you did for the club and the people in it.

                              I met with Harry recently.
I was always very fond of him.

He is, was part of an era of men that I don't see much any more and I will always value the time I spent with him.

                              He genuinely loved the roosters.
A very passionate and kind person.

                              I will miss him.
