  • Mini agrees to stay?

...So say says The Mole in RLW today ..I am not for it but says will take a pay cut and play on the wing .Has knocked back English offer .Personally I think the club is wrong in this .I can understand the loyalty thing and all but he has been here 14 years or so .For my money its time to hang up the dream .Although I believe he has become a good Captain that does his best for the side ....I cant see him providing any thing else next year.He is a great Rooster no doubt just hope he dont end up finishing the season for Newtown..I can see Hanare Wells pshing for a wing spot next year let alone Moga etc.
He really should concentrate and put all his efforts in winning this years comp.I am certain Uncle Nick will look after him for life . -All the best for this year Mini.

The question is, could we find a better winger for the same price? We certainly don't have any depth in the outside backs, so I'm not against this.

As long as RTS is fullback.

The problem is not whether we have the depth.

The problem is that next year, Mini is the depth.

A club great and previous captain will actually not be among the best first grade wingers at the club, if Moga is fit.

You couldn't leave a talent like Moga out of the side for Minichiello on the wing. RTS must play fullback.

It would be insulting to play Mini in Newtown - in fact, I don't think Politis or Robinson would do it. Which would mean leaving out a better player - detrimental to the side as a whole.

Mini has had and is having a great year. He should bow out on a high note, which this year may very well be.

Hope he does the right thing.

This is a fair call. I am just apprehensive in assuming Mogas talent will translate into regular First Grade. Although his talent is obvious, neither his body (injuries) or attitude are proven in first grade.

You need at least 6 outside backs that could play firsts. We have this in RTS, Jennings, SKD, Tupou, Moga, Mini. You are always going to have someone injured. Like you say though, the problem is that it would be wrong for Mini to be playing in the Jets if all are fit and in form.

If the coach wants him around another season then I'm on board.

I agree regarding Moga's physical fitness - two consecutive ACL's is a lot to come back from.

But his attitude I don't think will be an issue. Firstly, his issues with Smith are well documented - they did not get along. Given Robinson's popularity amongst the playing group, you would expect an improvement in Moga's attitude.

Secondly, almost every player in our side has shown a marked attitude improvement under Robinson. Surprisingly, I think this is most evident in SKD. Despite his sub-par year, he is not walking around thinking what he is doing is good enough. You can tell he is genuinely upset by mistakes he makes. On top of that, while his attack has been ordinary, the improvement in his defence is remarkable. He knows how to hit with the shoulder, and he knows how to hold up a player until cover defence comes across. He is nowhere near perfect, but the pathetic arm grabs and random rushing up out of the line have been few and far between.

That sort of shift in the players attitude would hopefully be equally as true for Moga. If it is, look out NRL.

He really needs this year to be his last. I love Mini but we can't afford to have him out there & waste young talent in the lower grades. The last thing we need is for a young up & coming star leaving the club becuase he can't get a run on the wing in FG.
