My thoughts re: Maloney's game

Hey guys, saw a few posts in the game day thread about Jimmy giving away 4 penalties and how bad he has looked. I just wanted to make a point of saying that by all accounts its classic signs of an Origin hangover. Hes never played at that intensity for that amount of time. Add on top of that the media scrutiny he didn't attract across the ditch and it shows he might just be spent. Positively, he showed class when setting up Boyd, but by all accounts he was ordinary.

Having sustained a fractured eye socket and heart crushing Origin series loss I really think he should be a candidate for a week off against Penrith/Gold Coast to freshen himself up. He will be back and brilliant for the Finals but I think he deserves a break.

Only my opinion though, would like to hear your thoughts.

I think you are right, rest him against the Titans, they are pathetic, he does look like he needs a break.

My response was to cookoman who questioned if Maloney was rested and SBW was suspended. I never said anything about the team being disrupted. Just throwing out an option if we're short on 5/8 that's all.

Maloney HAD a shocker.
FPN plays poorly week in week out unless he is playing for a contract.

Yes, Maloney is not at his best at the moment and hasn't been for some weeks now. Attribute this to SoO (where he also gave away stupid penalties) and a bit of a break against selected opposition sounds like a plan to me. He could have cost the Roosters the game today as far as I'm concerned. Nevertheless, the team did well against spirited opposition and ANOTHER FARGEN lopsided penalty count.

Surely burn out is just as bad as an injury? AFL players get rested because of 'soreness' all the time. Professional sport is about managing peaks and troughs in performance (doesn't always line up with results) and a rest might help him peak at the right time.

Maloney does this every year.....I know this through supercoach.....every year he has a mini slump, it takes him a few games but he turns it around
