  • Staggering stats on lopsided penalty counts

Ok here's one for all the conspiracy theorists out there; myself included.

My issue isn't just that we continually lose penalty counts, but also that we have an extraordinary ability to get caned every now and again in the count. Which made me think, "when was the last time we won a penalty count by a large margin?" Because I sure as hell can't remember!

Ok so firstly I decided upon the definition of a caning. I decided to tally up the times we've won/lost counts by 4 and 5+ as generally that's caning territory for me.

    So ... in the last 5 3/4 seasons - 2008 - 20013 inclusive:

We've won a penalty count by 4 penalties on two occasions. I repeat, that's twice in 5 3/4 years.

And we've won a penalty count by 5+ penalties in that same time period also on two occasions.

Quite shocking. But not as shocking as what im sure you realise is about to come:

In that same time period we have lost the penalty count by 4 on 12 occasions.

And the amount of times we've lost a count by 5+?

    Drumroll...

    17 times!

So in conclusion we've won penalty counts by 4+ penalties a grand total of 4 times out of 143 games and we've lost the penalty count by 4+ penalties 29 times in the same time span.

    Quite criminal.

P.S. And from the research, God help us whenever we travel to North Queensland, Canberra and New Zealand because it's flat out rape almost every time.

And now for the really important stat, how many has MLK given away in that time???

    Staggering indeed.

    You know it makes sense.

Nice evidence there but what will it accomplish.. Nada, personally I think there must be some secret refs fund which we as a club have refused to contribute to, JK : P

Well done on spending the time compiling those statistics mate
Its truly damning proof that the roosters are being screwed
I must admit last year our discipline was poor and we were dumb !
But im perplexed things havent improved when it obvious to all
that we are far smarter ,fitter and more disciplined

You conspiracists are all paranoid, the penalties all even themselves in the long run.

...only problem is in our case that will take decades, and we all probably wont be around to enjoy the penalty feast eventually coming our way !

What's the standard reply to stats like this? Something like "we deserve it"? Yeah, right.

Tommy, where do you source these stats from? I'd like to have a look.

Most games we lose the penalty count...

Maybe it's our game style? I feel we are a more creative, free flowing team than most, which can cause problems.

Only (rubbish) example I can think of is a social basketball league I play in. Before me and a few workmates signed up we didn't know it was run by a certain ethnic community (which I won't identify but they're all a lot shorter than us and get fired up extremely easily.)

We win every game by 30+ points but find they're able to shoulder charge us and slap our wrists while we are shooting. I never see foul's called against them...

Our team consists of many gentle giants in their 40s. I find the refs invent ways to penalise us... most recently everything we do has become "unsportsmanlike" to the point where we're often down to 1 or 2 players by the end of the game. Fouls include things like laughing when somebody misses or "making fun" of players (i.e. being taller and more skillful, so making the little guys look stupid.)

Next season I doubt we'll be welcome back as there are already calls to ban us from the social league. My opinion is that our style is very different so when refing the refs have a gut feeling we're wrong so make up a lot of excuses.

Maybe it's similar with the Roosters? Okay probably not

I just basically trolled through every game for as long as I could be bothered. The pattern was obvious by 2008. Oh and there were plenty of 6, 7 and even 8 + penalty count losses.

4 times in 143 games we've won a penalty count by 4. That's just blatant. Especially when compared to 29 against.

Apparently Martin Kennedy's mere presence on the sideline generated a stack of penalties over the last few weeks.
