He He, I forgot about about Laurie Spinas Academy Award winning performance to get that penalty to set up the field position for Slippery's match winner

      Norths 5-4 and 14-13
      Penrith 15-14
In that 14-13 win over Norths Tony Melrose kicked two field goals, one off each foot.

How many players could do that?

Tell me about it. My high school years were 88-93, not much to cheer about and that's why I never take our success for granted

I remember the week before I think Parramatta flogged us and Beetson (was he coaching us that year?) said that Manly would flog us by 50....then we ambushed them

The scorers for East that day were Brendan Hall and Hugh McGahan tries and Joe Lydon kicked 3 goals, no field goals, in fact Tony Melrose didn't play that game.

You are thinking of the 12-12 draw we had with Balmain at the SCG when that happened, also the week later he kicked a 45mtr field goal to give us a 15-14 win at Penrith Park.

                      The mid 80's were great!

The one game that sticks out for me was a first round game we played against Manly at the S.C.G.

IIRC, we had just sold Boustead and 'Crusher' to them and Manly were hot favourites.

We won the game and I will never forget 'chicka' picking up a ball and sprinting away leaving Boustead in his wake.

There was a kind of poetic justice to it all. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember David Greene scoring the winning try for us.

That was the first round in 1984 at the SCG.Chicka did score a great try that day, East won 24-8 with tries to Peter Grounds, Mark Beaven, Chicka Ferguson and Mike Eden and Eden kicked 4 goals.Dave Brown had long left East by then.We had a real motley team assembled that year and that was an upset win in the first round but it really went down hill after that.

Dave Brown was probably dead by that time haha.

Yeah, I just edited my post remembering it was David Greene and not Dave Brown. But Greene never scored for us that day either, lol.

They were great days as a youngster going to support the Roosters. We copped some right floggings at the Sports Ground. But my enthusiasm never wavered and it always made my day to see Ferguson get a touch of the ball and weave his magic.
