  • The 2010 Team Needs a Leader

And I dont know who in our current squad can step up to the plate?

We a need a discipled hard working no nonsense player to lead this team around and bring them together... Smith has made it his mission to help bond the group but their is no standout for the captaincy next year! Anasta and Mini are the only names that stand out as captaincy but Mini is injury prone and never struck me as a leader of men and Anasta (if the club allows him to stay) may well be forced to play out of position and not in his preferred 5/8 spot...

We also dont know what we will get from Carney in terms of discipline and professionalism in a key position like 5/8... And from memory Ryles never struck me as being disciplined on the field...

The squad has major issues and without a real leader things wont improve anytime soon

The more experienced (former rep players) in our squad, have disgraced themselves again and again, and it is now officially public that Mason is not wanted but he knew that long ago and still dug his heels in..

Issues galore Smith will need to work a miracle, and we will need to get lucky in being able to release the currently contracted players we are shopping around..

IMO Anasta is the man to lead us. I rated him very highly when he was at the Dogs but then his form was not as good when he made the move over here. But this year he really stepped up when our backs were against the walls and tried to lead the way until his injury. But I'm finally convinced he has a place at the club and he should be kept here at all costs IMO. None of us were happy when he was made captain but ever since, he has been terrific and that will be a decision Freddy made that will benefit us both now and in the future.

There are no guarentees Anasta will be at the club longterm, he has already been looking at his options... If Smith does not pick Anasta at 5/8, Anasta wont be here longterm... Smith likes high workrate locks that do alot dirty work...

Read that on the telecrap did you.....because Braith is happy to play as 5/8 or lock, because the position on paper really means nothing to his game in the long run.......

With Fitzy and O'Meley gone am I right in assuming there won't be a single guy in our club that is a "family" man? (have kids, married etc) Ryles really is a crucial buy if that is true, we are going to continue to be a club of free spirits as they are all loaded up on cash and have no one that depends on them.

Leadership really is farked up out our joint.

            Ryles in the pack.

            Mini in the backline.

            Anasta in the halves.

Sam Perrett is a family man but I wouldn't put the pressure of leadership on him as yet, especially as it's not set in stone which position he'll play in 2010.

Anasta is the only mature leader we currently have at the Club.

Myles has experience but lacks maturity, common sense and brain cells and should not be considered for any leadership or mentoring role, now or in the future. He is lucky he still has a place at the Club and if truth be told, probably shouldn't.

Maybe he shouldn't, but unlike some of the others, I do beleive he is truely sorry for what happened, and extremely embarassed about it......I doubt some of the other players give their behavior a second thought...........

Surely Fitzy could have been retained and allowed to go out on his terms rather than a tainted wooden spoon.
By tainted I mean it could easily have been avoided with a little more effort.
I'm saddened by what has happened to this once formidable club and wish Brian Smith all the best in righting this horribly listing ship.
As for leaders, the only person that comes to mind is Braith but I fear for his place at this club.

We will never recover from the losses of Harrison, Toops and Fitzgibbon. There went our tough defensive rock, our ballplaying linebreaker, and our champion workhorse.

Myles is always sorry and embarrassed after the fact, but unfortunately it doesn't stop him from getting on the piss and taking the risk of another alcohol related incident.

And sooner or later, he runs too great a risk and gets caught out (again).

And two out of the three were true "Easts" men. What price does one put on that characteristic?

                          You want a leader for 2010 ??

look no further than Sam Perrett.

A smart and cluey footballer, busts his ring each and every week and is one of the few that still bleed RWB in a good way !

A family man, strong Morals and values, a clean skin in the true sense of the word.

A player that is looked up to by others and a player/person that is humble yet still oozes confidence.

both on and off the field he is a fantastic example of a premier footballer and upstanding citizen.

The way the club is at the moment, we need Sam Perrett as Captain !!!!

Out of those 3 the only one we will truly miss is Fitzgibbon.
Toops had an ordinary couple of years and only hit form when it was contract time.

Harrison, well lets say, based on what he did at the roosters, its a complete and utter insult to mention his name in the same breath at Fitzy, he was rubbish when he was here.

Anasta will should and will be our long term captain, whilst others were laughing when we were being flogged he was giving the guys a spray, it is the young guys that need to pull their heads in and start to listen, maybe it is just this gen y bullshit, these punks think they are better and know more, yet they know very little.

I know it is the off season but i seen 2 of our young "untouchables" at circular quay station last sat evening, plastered, i mean the wall was holding them up, surely after all the shit that has already happened they would know when to stop and realise "someone may take advantage or something may happen, hopefully or luckily it didnt but fark me these pricks shit me to tears.
