Don't know why people are dirty on Bob Fulton. Forget about what an irritant he is today, but he was a fine player for Easts. He was our leading try scorer in 1977, and captained the kangaroos in 78.

James Maloney is a far better player than John Peard. SBW was an easy selection. Not interested in longevity, just the greatest of the players.

Mini was a much better fullback than Fairfax. Fairfax had 2 good years in 74, and 75. He broke his leg, and was never the same player.
Mini was the best fullback in the world for 3 years. No contest

would still put walker in front of maloney then. A pass each from walker and freddy would cover the width of the field.

A night out with the pair would more then cover the width of Sydney

One of the worst buys in rooster history !!!
After winning the Dally m with the vermin in 1980, he came back to the roosters .Even back then when i was a young boy I could see he was overated and playing off the back his reputation .
im surprised no one rates Dean Bell or The Axe !!!

Agree with you about Robert Laurie, maybe if he had been given a decent chance at Easts back in 76-77 to make the 5/8th position his he might have been ok but when he left to Souths he stood out in an fairly ordinary side and seemed to to have an attitude that he was the bee's knees as a player when he came back to Easts which he wasn't .
As for the axe, are you talking about the original Bunny Reilly? who I included in the other team thread or Gilly?
Dean Bell was a reasonable centre but after Brass and Harris as the starting two I would players like Matt Sing, Ivan Clearly ahead of Bell in the next lot of centres but that is only my opinion.

Fairfax was electric before he broke his leg but was never the same after, he was still good in 1976 and even 1977 but the spark was lacking and was completely missing by the time 1978 came around, that is why I rate Marty Gurr ahead of Fairfax at Easts.

Don't agree about James Maloney being a far better player than John Peard, Maloney is a fine player and i'm happy with his form at Easts but Peard was a beauty and I think we may have still been a chance of being Grand Finalists back in in 1976-77 had we been able to keep him at Easts and playing 5/8.
Maloney is a good player but comparing to Peard is like apples to oranges.

I remember Laurie coming over with much fanfare .I was referring to Trevor Gillmiester .Ill never forget the hit he put on a Manly player[whose name ive forgotten } he nearly cut him in half Your probably right about Dean Bell , perhaps time has clouded my judgement
