  • Rabs 'No Roosters juniors'

During the GF Ray Warren mentioned that the only Roosters junior playing was Tom Symonds, who was playing for Manly. Pretty much saying that we buy all our players from other clubs. What he forgets to mention though is that the majority of the team have only ever played first grade with the Roosters.

    1. Minichiello - Debut Roosters
    2. Tupou - Debut Roosters
    3. Jennings - Debut Penrith
    4. SKD - Debut Roosters
    5. RTS - Debut Roosters
    6. Maloney - Debut Storm
    7. Pearce - Debut Roosters
    8. Moa - Debut Sharks
    9. Friend - Debut Roosters
    10. JWH - Debut Manly
    11. Guerra - Debut Roosters
    12. SBW - Debut Bulldogs
    13. Cordner - Debut Roosters

    14. Mortimer - Debut Eels
    15. FPN - Debut Roosters
    16. Aubusson - Debut Roosters
    17. LOD - Debut Tigers

Pretty good considering it's 2013 and so hard these days to keep a team together with all the salary cap restrictions.
Also looking at the players that have come from other clubs, it's not like we got them while they were the stars of their respective teams.
Jennings was unwanted at Penrith, Maloney wanted to come home after being in NZ for a while, Moa played only one game for Cronulla and was playing in France at the time, JWH had only played a handful of games for Manly, SBW had come from Rugby Union, Morts was unwanted by the Eels and LOD was finishing up his career in Super League.

George Rose too... he was a chook on debut.

I don't buy into the myth that some clubs identify the majority of their players when they are ~8 years old and stick with most of them when it's time for the NRL. For example the Storm always boasted that they had their own juniors... like GI, Smith, Slater, Gronk and Folau. None of them were born in Melbourne and all of them chose to play for QLD so I never understood that argument (as it was often used to criticise our supposed lack of 'real' Roosters).

Part of our success has been that we have signed good juniors AND seniors hence our success at all levels this season. Most other teams either had good NYC players or good NRL players.

      As opposed to manly:
      B.stewart- from the gong
      Wolf man- parra Juniour
      Lyon-parra
      Matai-kiwi
      Tafua-??
      Foran-Norths
      Cherry-Evans- qld
      Kite-dragons
      Ballin-qld
      Lawrence-from the tits
      Choc- local junior
      Horro- eels
      G.Stewart- from the gong
I think 9 of them debut for manly. There aren't many teams that are loaded with local talent. Most have developed talent like us and manly. It's one of those perception as opposed to reality. The constant talking of our lack of local juniors disregards the the fact that most of our players have come through our system much like manly and Melbourne.

The whole 'local juniors' thing is an argument that older supporters tend to cling to.

It dates back to the time when teams could only field a couple or players who lived outside 'their area' and it's just not relevant any more.

Any club in the NRL should be scouring the country, plus NZ, Pacific Islands and the UK for talent.....not just blindly trying to sign players just because they were born round the corner from the leagues club.

Recently, we've got a better record than most clubs for promoting young players to first grade. Should we really give a shit that they weren't born in Bondi?

The common theme with these dinosaurs such as Sattler, McCarthy and Warren is that they support perennial losers such as Souffs and Parramatta.

It must be really hurting these people that we are the Premiers.

Another dope and also fits the old quote from Mark Twain

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Whilst I am happy to sit down and dissect a few teams and the number of juniors in their team I can’t be bothered at the moment because there are more enjoyable things just now.

I can’t however let the tripe that gets put about by those who don’t do any research and cling to age old lines before running off at the mouth such as Ray Warren.

Ask him about the classic western Sydney team of Canterbury Bankstown around 2004 and its makeup of juniors.

I posted this several times and this senarios occurs regularly over the years for many clubs.

Look at the Bulldogs recent strong sides around 2004 and beyond and you find a large number of players who were developed outside the Canterbury junior base Willie Mason (Newcastle), Andrew Ryan (Group 11NSWCRL), Sonny Bill Williams(Auckland), Willie Tonga (Qld) ,Mark O’ Meley (NSWCRL), Braith Anasta (Souths),Steve Price (Toowoomba, QLD), Jonathon Thurston (Toowoomba, QLD), Nate Myles (Qld) , Luke Patten (NSWCRL), Roy Asotasi (Auckland), Adam Perry (NSWCRL), Tony Grimaldi (St. George), Reni Maitua (Souths) Ben Harris (NSWCRL),to name a few.
