With SBW likely to be back at the Roosters in 2014 I think we firm as red hot favourites to go back to back. Our team will only get stronger and better and providing we don't have too many injuries we should be celebrating a premiership this time next year as well
These are the teams I think may or may not be a threat in 2014;
Favourite
1. Roosters: Same team as 2013 will only be bigger and better. Potentially signing Fergusson. Things can only improve. Only risk to season 2014 for the Roosters is injuries.
Big Threats
1. Souths: Have lost some depth, but with their strong forward pack they will always be competitive. They will have learnt from 2013 and come out strongly in 2014 as one of the main contenders for the title.
2. Melbourne: With the big three getting older their chances are diminishing, but never count them out. They have been there and done that so they will always be a chance of being there GF day.
3. Manly: As 2013 showed they are always competitive. They have lost depth in their forwards and key players are ageing, but with Foran and DCE steering the ship they will always be a decent team.
4. Cowboys: With Paul Green coaching I think they will have a much better season than 2013. They have the players (JT, Tate, Tamou, Scott) to match it with any team. They have under performed for many years now, 2014 may be the year they change this.
5. Sharks: With ASADA behind them and some useful signings they should be able to match it with the top teams. With Locke possibly going to Cronulla he will provide some much needed spark to accompany Carney and Gordon in the backs.
Surprise Package:
1. Parramatta: I may be calling this very wrong, but I think under a new (possibly young) coach there is no where for Parra to go but up. With Hayne, Sandow, Mossop, Peats, Norman and Hopate on their books they could push up the ladder. They may not make the 8 but I think they will be surprise a few people.
2. Panthers: Suprised everyone in 2013, with a few solid signings in 2014 (Kite, Soward, Wallace) and key players back from injury they will push for a top 8 position. Probably dont have the squad to win a premiership though.
3. Broncos: With Barba and Kennedy strengthening their forwards and backs and with a young team a year older they should push up the ladder. Only question mark is on their halves or lack thereof.
Who Knows
1. Warriors: Have the potential to beat the best on their day, but the story of the Warriors is that they are too unpredictable. A lot will depend on the impact on Sam Tomkins and how he goes down under.
2. Dragons: Still feeling the aftermath of their 2010 premiership with many senior players leaving. The signing of Widdop, Farrell and Dugan may provide some spark to their side.
3. Raiders: Who knows? Will Ricky Stuart go well? Will they have off field dramas? Im not really sure what Canberra are capable of. Seems all their young troubled stars just cant wait to leave.
4. Titans: They dont have the roster to win, and I personally dont think they have signed the right players in the past few seasons. I like Bird and Myles in the forwards though, and with them there they will always be dangerous.
Dying Force
1. Bulldogs: With no Barba they have lost their only superstar/game winner. They have a decent roster without it being great. I think they will fall to bottom or the 8 or just outside the 8.
2. Knights: With a team aged 30+ you cant expect too much. 2014 was a fluke, beating a poor Storm team inflated everyones opinion of them. Also without Buderus they will lack direction. Cant see them making the 8.
No Hope
1. Tigers: Struggled in 2013 and only signed a couple of has-beens for 2014. The Tigers may be set for an even worse 2014 with Braith at the helm.
Whats everyones thoughts on 2014?
