  • Dragons' Lam coup

    By James Phelps
    From: The Daily Telegraph
    Fri Oct 16 00:00:00 EST 2009

IN A major coup, master coach Wayne Bennett has recruited Adrian Lam to the Dragons.

Considered one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the game, Lam will join the club as the Toyota Cup coach, but will also assist Bennett with the NRL side.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Lam had a falling-out with Brad Fittler at the Roosters, with Freddy failing to utilise the ex-halfback in his role as assistant. Lam was dumped when Brian Smith replaced Fittler.

Lam jumped at the opportunity of working under Bennett and will begin his duties next month when St George Illawarra begin the pre-season.

Good on ya Lam. Hopefully you can flourish with Bennett helping and then come back to coach the Roosters when Smith goes.

Trew rates him big time as a coach.

I have no reason to disagree.

He basically was head coach last season for the last six weeks.

        Shittler was a shut-in.

Umm, did you see where the side Lam coached ended up on the ladder? I think Trew is full of shit and his claim about Lam only adds credence to that.

          Chook.

He hardly had a confidence-filled and united bunch to work with.

I thought there was some improvement.

The concern with Lam is how he coached the 2008 U20's......................that does not look good on the resume, being dumped mid season from coaching u20's.

I guess lammy will be the next ex roosters half that will be thanking bennett !!

Won't miss him, he deadset destroyed our kids in 2008 with a rubbish round table selection policy, he'll probably go alright under Bennett I suppose.

Actually they were a really solid team again by the end of the 2008 season, but ofcourse the better ones either covered for Firsts this season or left the club. (Winterstein and Tamou)

I dont know if Lam was teh sole reason our under 20s went the way they did. first grade's a rabble. Big calls made by unqualified senior members in teh club, teh club's a rabble from top to bottom, and on top of that 80% of our roster are shit. teh 20s are shit, first grade are shit. Those factors have more to do with our position on ladders than Lam. Lam may not have been a great coach. But you arent going to build a statue with a lump of shit. This is the weakest Easts, as an entire club I have seen. in 02,03,04 we were winning club championships. Now we are shit.

                      Shit.

                      Myles like shit.

                      Sloppy.

                      Wet.

                      Smelly.

                      Steamy.

                      Shit.

A couple were in firsts this year - Friend, Symonds, Jones.

But then again, does this mean Lam was responsible for the Mini fiasco? Why wasn't Symonds - the U20s 5/8 - tried there before his injury?

Or was it a case of players not wanting to listen?

Funny thing is - our sg ball have won 2 years in a row. Hope the coach - Joel Grieg - is kept.

I don't blame Lam for the 20's - I blame lack of heart by most of the players, bit like first grade really

Iam pretty sure we did not win SG Ball this year.. I am certain we didn't even make the final.

We made the finals but were bundled out either first or second round.

Lam was dumped from the 20's because the players revolted when Lam tried to bring discipline to the squad when he could see the bad culture arising which permeated our squads this year with all the off field drama's
