If I am am not mistaken I remember some commentator mentioning that the attacking player, when he is contesting the ball can be tackled in air.Maybe someone can verify that for all of us.

Manly's tactic was to put a lanky rookie winger under immense pressure from all angles, shake him around and make him lose his head. Not saying he was disrespected, but Tupou's attitude won us the game IMO. Manly had no answers when he towered above them in attack/defence and had sure hands every time. They picked the wrong man to single out as our achilles...

To me Tupou's attitude/style sums up how we beat Manly this year. Every time we played them we were ripped off, but put that behind us and focussed on our own game. This meant that while we could be penalised, those penalties didn't turn into easy tries/brain explosions. Beautiful footy to watch, without doubt THE best GF this century!
Did anyone notice Manlys tactic in defence by lifting one leg of our player every second tackle whilst in the standing position and also on the ground. It was to cause harm without doubt, I remember during the game I was blowing up about it and finally everyone realised.
Also the constant head locks on the ground to our player, even to the point SBW lashed out after the ball had been played...
They are tough Manly but are scum in defence.

You can tackle the attacking player jumping for the ball bu only whilst he has the ball. In Toupos case Wankman hit him we'll before he had the ball, hence could of put him in a dangerous position. Technically should of been penalty try..

Except for the young fringe players coming thru like Evans, Moga, Rhyse Martin, Langi (all 2014) and Napa (2015). We've purposely developed them to integrate into our top side & would be a shame to see them fly the coop. Can't keep 'em all so they say.
Unfortunately Moga is going to be heavily sought by rival clubs

Because history has proven how hard it is to win two in a row, let alone 3 !!!!!! Fark I hope I'm wrong. The one most important thing in regards to back to back is INJURIES ...

The roosters in NZ are gaining allot of respect because league fans here all year wanted a chooks/bunnies GF but it was only the chooks who carried the peoples hopes .. every1 here is like hating on the bunnies now .. F@?k OFF .. Personally to beat Manly who have been dominant for the last 6 years pretty much speaks for itself - True Champs and its feels sooooo good, all day every day

Why would it have been a penalty try - he scored the try?

If you mean an eight point try that is only for foul play as or after the try is scored.

Anyway it didn't matter - Toups owned Williams on the night - William's performance was Mavin-esque

When did a penalty try and an 8-point try become different things?

When Manly were awarded their bullshit penalty try, I immediately assumed they'd get two kicks at goal. Was scratching my head when it didn't happen.

Pretty sure it's always been the case.

Very true. A penalty try is awarded when a foul prevents the player from actually scoring a try. An 8 point try is when a player is fouled in the act of scoring.

Jamie Lyons' try was neither. It was a joke of a decision. Lyons should have been penalised for diving, not just once but at least three times during the game. He has become the ultimate Manly whinger just like Fulton of yesteryear and all his captains since.

What irks me about this bloke is that he is did the original walkout of his club without telling anyone. People seem to forget this and just bag SBW for doing the same.

Dead right every time the Lyons walkout is bought up they say it was because of smith, the same way Sonny did'nt get on with Folks, is the walkout the worst thing they can do ? I think deliberately playing like shit, off field infringments drinking etc, how long did the Carney thing drag out everyone knew what was giong on. Id heard the sharks & him were eyeing off each other for months. How convienent.
