I don't doubt that he didn't have big attitude problems but he'll undoubtedly be one of those players (just like Tamou) that we let go because of disciplinary reasons that go on to reach great heights. He'll play for NSW in the next two years. And he probably would've shaped as the perfect player to step up and fill the hole that SBW will leave. Sure he isn't anywhere the worker that SBW is, especially with how tight he keeps the defence, but when it comes to raw talent he doesn't have many peers in the game in my opinion. Smith ruined his time here by playing him on the wing. I pray we handle the Moga situation better. Develop his defensive game, work him into our attacking systems to give him time with the ball. We could have a ridiculous backline in 2 years time with RTS, Tupou, Jennings, Moga and MacDonald (who has all the attributes, just needs to work on his defence). Plus Taane Milne if he sticks around who is one of the best young defensive centres going around and has magic footwork and great delivery to his centre.
We're very lucky to have such immense talent coming through with RTS, Tupou, Moga, MacDonald, Jonathan Reuben, Milne, Naughton (who looks a prospect to me), Hastings, Willis Meehan, Evans, Napa, Liu, Taukeahio and Langi all with plenty of wraps from important people. Some of those guys are the most promising players in the country (in their positions) for their age. Mix that with so many players only now hitting their mid 20s that have played around 100 first grade games and it all but ensures that we will maintain a high level of success. Pearce for example will hit around 27 when Hastings comes into grade in the halves and if all goes to play we'll have one of the most promising halves in the comp learning from one of the most experienced (and dare I say he'll be close to the best by that stage in my opinion). Very exciting times ahead for us Rooster fans!!

Day 11
Tonga 22 defeated Cook Islands 16
It was... an entertaining game. Poor execution of basic skills and brain dead decision making meant neither side every really looked like running away with the game.
Tinirau Arona - 7/10
Very good game, he carried the ball very well all game, offered a ball playing threat before the line and was heavily involved in defence. His mobility and late footwork was a real asset for the Cooks against a HUGE Tongan team.
Dylan Napa - 7.5/10
The commentators were waxing lyrical over his performance and rightfully so. Involved in everything and did it with quality, his defence was brutal, his carries were strong & and he was doing all the little things. Lots of runs where he was supporting the ball carrier, running into hole for his ball players and getting back to clean up kicks, make cover tackles etc. Just a shame the team had no organisation what so ever because he could've been much better utilised and lead them to victory. Very good game and promising signs for next year, I'd be surprised if he's not a full time member of the 17 next year.
Daniel Tupou - 5/10
Got exposed a couple of times in defence tonight, not entirely his fault because Hurrell's positioning was poor all night but he still needed to hold his width a lot better. Not overly concerning though, defused the kicks that came his way well and took a few good runs but not a whole lot to write about.
Samisoni Langi - 6/10
Clearly not a half, his first instinct is to run the ball and he looks uneasy when he's trying to run plays. For a forward he's got great ball playing ability and general playmaking skills but struggles with the organisational roles and decision making of a half. Not easy for a 20 year old playing out of position so I don't want to be too harsh. When he did run he looked threatening as he always does, very strong and has a very prominent step.
Nafe Seluini - 6.5/10
Came off the bench and offered a lot for Tonga out of dummy half, was a big reason in them regaining the lead in the first half. Had a quiet second half but a pretty decent game all up for Nafe.
No games on tomorrow so I shall enjoy the sleep in
Next game is Friday morning (Sydney time) between Scotland and the USA in which no Roosters are involved.

I agree with your ratings/summary. I also found myself thinking that Langi's not a half; his kicking game is average and I agree - he looks uncomfortable running plays. He will, however, be a strong option in the pack. Still reckon he'd make a decent centre too if coached well and given sufficient game time, but with the swathe of hot talent at the club I wonder if he'll ever truly make his mark at Easts.
Arona is a class act - I just think he's a footballer's footballer (if you know what I mean); he plays strongly, does the little things well, puts his hand up when it matters and never makes mistakes. He'll never break a game and won't crack our side next year, but he's an NRL player every day of the week and deserves to be playing in a strong side.
Napa was a leader out there, playing heaps of minutes and looking strong all the time. Again I agree with you when you posit that in a better-run side Napa would have been far more useful, although without his work I guess the Cook Islands would likely not have been in the match.
Taripo was great defensively, ball in hand and with the boot. Hope he finds an NRL club next year.Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

7/ 10 chris Taripo, who scored all his side's points and delighted the stadium-record crowd of 8544 with a hat-trick of tries that earned him the man-of-the-match award. which I personally thought napa would of got it due to his dominance over kite (who was very quiet) and his all game face off against moi moi. where I think Dylan won. Dylan 7.5 to 8 /10
and your right six the blockheads had no ideas in attack but to basketball it around and hope a hole appears.
langi is a definite 2nd rower come centre. looks like he has beefed up abit too.
nafe goes ok and I don't think he is moving to bro land at the end of the wc just yet..
and tinny is just a work horse. all game he was barking instructions. not a huge fan of him but he went ok this year
and micky peaea looks great and is doing good , for an ol bloke and johnathan ford offered some good attacking kicks and plays to the game. but should have injected himself earlier in the game.1911 1912 1913 1923 1935 1936 1937 1940 1945 1974 1975 2002 2013 2018 2019 2020
