Its all fun and games watching young Chooks players clean up Gal. Napa and Evans 1-1.

Was a little disappointed in Kane other than that, then I remembered he hasn't cracked 1st grade yet and was playing against the Kangaroos. I probably need to lower my expectations on him a bit.

      Day 8

      Australia 34 defeated Fiji 2

Probably one of the least entertaining games so far of the comp.

      Boyd Cordner - 6.5/10

Played about half the game but spent the majority of that time at lock, and whilst he carted the ball up well and was by no means out muscled he's just no where near as effective in the middle as he is on the edges. Didn't see any of his line running, all of Australia's carries were one out hitups so no chance of an offload or short interchanging of passes before the line it was just a pretty basic job he was asked to do and he did it as good as he could've.

Looked absolutely shattered when Lewis got injured and was carried from the field, I know he's been rooming with him and he looks up to him immensely. Great to see a kid who has so much passion for the game and the blokes he plays with, at 21 he's already a leader and he probably doesn't even realise it.

      9 runs, 75 metres, 21 tackles, 0 errors

      Michael Jennings - 7/10

Defended well, helped well with the yardage out of their own end and scored a nice try. Threw two absolute howlers when he was trying to pick out his unmarked winger but outside of that it was a solid game for him. Not really a whole lot more to say.

      1 try, 11 runs, 102 metres, 4 tackle busts, 14 tackles, 2 linebreaks & 3 errors

      Kane Evans - 6.5/10

Played about 30 minutes all up and handled himself well, definitely started to grow into the game the longer he was out there so it'd be nice to see him get an extended run in their final round game. Put Gallen on his back just before half time like SuperMario alluded to, I'm sure Napa & Evans will debate who's hit on Gallen was bigger but you have to think if they get the chance to come off the bench together at some point next year they're going to have a bit of fun together, anyone who used to watch the 20's already know what they're capable of. Shame the shoulder charge has been banned.

His carries were solid all night, mixed up his game a bit more tonight. In Game 1 all his carries were tight runs right up the middle but he was definitely getting back to what he does best and mixing it up with some wide ruck runs. I know this is what makes people think he should become a second rower but it's great to have that sort of versatility in your prop rotation. Still a few minor defensive issues, very similar to what Woods & Tamou struggled with early in their careers... I put it down to tall man syndrome. Needs to bend the back every now and then.

      8 runs, 65 metres, 16 tackles & 0 errors

I think the ratings reflect what was a pretty average game. I would've found it hard to justify giving anyone over a 7.5... maybe Petero, he was just inspirational. But really I thought every player was about a 6 or a 7.

Tomorrow Italy play Scotland & Wales play the USA. Both Guerra & Mini will be involved for the Roosters.

That's the one part of his game that really needs work ...his drawing and passing to a winger. There were quite a few times this year where he threw some pretty ordinary passes to Tupou. He seems to pass without ever looking to where he is passing to !

If he continues to score tries like the GF one, we can forgive this blemish in his game, but if he wants to be the complete player, he need to work on that draw/pass.

7/10 for boyd , boyd and tomou were the only aussie forwards going straight

6/10 for jenko, I guess he isn't used to passing the ball

and 9/10 for kane just for the one on one front on tackle which stopped inglass dead in his tracks then to back it up the next hit , squarely on gallen. awesome hit.

seeing kane right next to inglass shows how big this kid is. looking forward to watching kanes future

and just as a foot note how good was the Fijian 7... rising star

What round was it this morning?

                  - Kane Evans put a massive hit on Jennings (and Gallen I think?) VERY promising... although the hit on Jennings had me scared.
                  - Cordner played a really solid game, punt Thaiday!
                  - Jennings scored a try but was a little sloppy (like most of the team). Darius Boyd couldn't read him well either so made a few of his passes look stupid. When you're used to linking up with SBW/RTS/Tupou/Mini then Darius Boyd is a Waterhouse ($hithouse) option I guess. Punt Darius!!!

A lacklustre showing from Australia leaving me confused as to why MOM went to JT. He knocked 2 really good kicks over and missed a much easier one.

Evans had a massive showing given his experience.

Blocker hasn’t stopped giving kane evans massive wraps on the radio. He said he is definitely ready for 1st grade and would not expect him to be in reserve grade for much longer, if chooks dont give him a chance, another club will take him off their hands.

Blocker can keep dreaming Kane Evans is a keeper and was actually in line to make his 1st grade debut before Napa this year but injuries put paid to that and with Odonnell unlikely to be re-signed and Sonny moving on after 2014 there'll be plenty of $ to keep him.

Yep he put in some massive hits, he did do one Gallen too yea. If Napa and Evans make a career out of smashing Gallen I'll be happy.

                          Day 9

Italy 30 drew with Scotland 30

Very good game, both sides went tit for tat in an exciting game. A draw in the end was a fair result.

                          Aiden Guerra - 7/10

Set up a try nicely with a late offload similar to the first game. Wasn't as dominant as he was in the first game but was still always a threat. Like in the first game I thought Italy really struggled in getting quality ball to their three-quarters and Guerra had to go looking for it alot. Set up one try, put a forward into a hole with a nice short ball, nearly scored when he competed for a cross field bomb and helped his forwards out with a lot of carries out of his own end. Solid game for Guerra but I just feel he's being under-utilised and a move into the forwards would really benefit the team.

                          16 runs, 100 metres, 1 try assist, 2 linebreak assists, 2 offloads & 1 error

                          Anthony Minichiello - 7/10

Showed good reflexes to pick up a ball on his toes from a deflection off a kick & score a try, was safe all night and carried the ball back well. Saved a potential 40/20 with some tip toeing along the sideline but outside of that struggled to create anything in attack. Was safe and reliable at the back all game.

                          14 runs, 108 metres, 1 try & 0 errors.

Tomorrow PNG take on Samoa in which Nene Mcdonald will be involved in. I was very impressed with him in his first game for PNG so I'll be interested to see how he goes tomorrow.

evans must be reminded not to break his club mates in this comp, plenty of other players to smash eg cam smith gi etc..

I agree with Jennings, thought he looked ordinary, but Boyd was out of position a bit (I am still stunned how he plays rep football)
I did think JT had a decent game, made some decent breaks
