  • Where will Mini play?

Assuming he will be re-signed, where does everyone think Mini will play the majority of the season?

I actually think Mini has regained a yard of pace over the past 6 months and would be a very solid first grade winger. The argument that you can't have your captain on the wing I don't believe is a valid one for Mini. His best moments as captain where behind the goal line calming the boys down and getting them back on the game plan. His was very good in his scoots from dummy half this season. Would have a high workrate with this coming out of our end. Very good in the air, even with contested ball as he would get on the wing. He'd be in a good position on the field to help out RTS with his positioning when he needs it. And as I said I don't think speed is that much of a problem for him.

People may say why fix something that ain't broke. But I think if we want to win the comp again next year then we need to have our best players in their best positions and RTS is undoubtedly one of our best players in my opinion. Whenever you hear coaches talk about RTS they always mention his willingness to learn and how quickly he does pick things up. After a full preseason training at fullback I have no doubt that Robbo will have immensely improved his positioning and his support play, the two areas he lacks. His returning of kicks would get us much more on the front foot than we were this year. We'd also see plenty of full breaks from kick returns. His presence on the left would give Jennings a lot more space.

Maybe he won't be put at fullback straight away but I think by the time finals come round he will be our second biggest X-factor in the middle behind Sonny of course, having shown up plenty of defences already.

And just quietly, don't you get the feeling Sonny is going to be almost twice as good next year?!!

Watch how good he is after some preseason (albeit probably very short). I get the feeling some of his offloads are going to be ridiculous next year. Hopefully the rest of our boys can keep up!!

    Fullback no doubt.
Roger's Winger of the Year award suggests he goes ok out there.
Mini is a strong voice behind the best defensive side.
    If it ain't broke.....

      Mini MUST be fullback.

He marshals the troops beautifully from the back, particularly in defence. And we have so many options in attack, and will only get better in 2014 with improved combinations; so I believe the team is better served having Mini at fullback steadying the ship.

We also musn't forget that RTS has, at least imo anyway, become the best winger in the comp. He's incredible under the high ball, unstoppable close to the tryline with only a couple of cover defenders to step, as well as deceptively strong which sees him gain plenty of crucial metres carrying the ball out of our own half. His defence is solid without being outstanding, but will only improve.

In tandem with Toops I believe we have the most destructive wing combo in the competition by a long way. Why change that? The wing is a position for young athletes. I would hate to see Mini look like Lote or Pat Richards these days on the wing.

At fullback he's one or two steps ahead of the opposition mentally, but he'll lose that advantage and suddenly look his age on the wing.

The natural progression for me will be RTS to fullback in 2015, when the team needs to evolve and expand its attacking arsenal following the loss of SBW. Until then, Mini is the man to help us go back to back in the no.1

Another Idea could be that the alternate positions much like brisbane did with Hodges and Hoffman.
Or have RTS go to the back in attack, mini at fullback for defence.

There is alot of things to think about here.

The most important thing is Mini will know himself when its time to move on. Might be this year or the next, Too much of a team player and he loves this club to death.

He will step aside himself when its time to move to the wing.

          Fullback for Lazio rugby apparently.

I think they will alternate a bit during games to suit the plan. Just my thought.

I'd be happy either way, but I lean towards having Rog at fullback purely from an attacking POV.

He is seriously great - I think that in a key position he'd be our best player (aside from Sonny).

I also think that with some runs on the board he'd be at least Mini's equal in defence, and not far behind under the high ball. Marshaling the troops would take the longest to learn, but I'd back him. He's a great footballer - a true once-in-a-generation talent.

It was said this time last year that in order for our team to win the NRL competition Anthony "Mini" Minichiello had to move on to the wing.

                    Fullback.
Roger will have the number one for a good ten years, even if Mini plays in 2014.

Mini to wing, Jake to F/Back, Roger to hooker, SBW to halfback, Pearce to lock, SKD to 5/8, Maloney to Prop, Moa to centre with Damien Blanche and Jennings dropped to Newtown with JWH and Cordner...

Rts showed he has a long way to go at fullback on the three games he played there. Didnt get involved in the attack side of things as much as everyone thought he would, and defensively he has some work to to do on his own game, as well as organising the team.

Another year on the wing with a bit of a go at fullback from time to time will do him the world of good for 2015. Mini would be fine on the wing from about 15-20m out, but anything further than that, where speed is a necessity, I think it would be a fail.
