Assuming he will be re-signed, where does everyone think Mini will play the majority of the season?
I actually think Mini has regained a yard of pace over the past 6 months and would be a very solid first grade winger. The argument that you can't have your captain on the wing I don't believe is a valid one for Mini. His best moments as captain where behind the goal line calming the boys down and getting them back on the game plan. His was very good in his scoots from dummy half this season. Would have a high workrate with this coming out of our end. Very good in the air, even with contested ball as he would get on the wing. He'd be in a good position on the field to help out RTS with his positioning when he needs it. And as I said I don't think speed is that much of a problem for him.
People may say why fix something that ain't broke. But I think if we want to win the comp again next year then we need to have our best players in their best positions and RTS is undoubtedly one of our best players in my opinion. Whenever you hear coaches talk about RTS they always mention his willingness to learn and how quickly he does pick things up. After a full preseason training at fullback I have no doubt that Robbo will have immensely improved his positioning and his support play, the two areas he lacks. His returning of kicks would get us much more on the front foot than we were this year. We'd also see plenty of full breaks from kick returns. His presence on the left would give Jennings a lot more space.
Maybe he won't be put at fullback straight away but I think by the time finals come round he will be our second biggest X-factor in the middle behind Sonny of course, having shown up plenty of defences already.
And just quietly, don't you get the feeling Sonny is going to be almost twice as good next year?!!
Watch how good he is after some preseason (albeit probably very short). I get the feeling some of his offloads are going to be ridiculous next year. Hopefully the rest of our boys can keep up!!
