I'll reserve my judgement on Junior until i see how he performs in a decent, structured side.

The 'Dogs left side attack was lethal 2002 - 2004 with Anasta, Ryan / Mason, Utai operating down that side.

Anasta has been dicked around by club and rep coaches all his career (as well as a couple of team mates). I feel sorry for the bastard ... maybe ...
      I dont agree with you.

He performed well when he was in a dogs team that was cheating the cap and were spending double on players than they were allowed to. Since those times after 2004 when their team eventually got dismantled because of their cap penalties, he has been rubbish. Absolute rubbish. Instead of dominating the last few years (because that is where he should be at in this stage of his career), his teams have only made the playoffs once in the last 5 years.

Good points, seeing as league is a team game.I reckon we can only judge him on the football he's produced versus the impact (that those who rate him highly), expected him to have on our club when he was signed.

I've seen Anasta have some very good games in red, white & blue, but IMO he has'nt been a senior, result-producing, dominant 5/8 on a consistant basis.

Afterall, the term "over-rated" does'nt mean a player is no good.

Actually, that's a pretty fair comment. I'm certainly not saying he's hopeless, just not deserving of the endless wraps he gets (esp from Andrew "outstanding" Johns). He is only young, and he defends very well for a guy his size. But what we are absolutely crying out for is a half (or 5/8) who can threaten the line. Maybe Carney's the guy. Maybe Smith can get Pearce going. On the odd occasion he does run at the line his right foot step is telegraphed and he has this odd habit of falling over. And his (and Anasta's) ridiculous 5th tackle option of hoisting bombs from 40m out that are inevitably taken uncontested drives me insane.

Probably have to say Cherrington. Had a few good games in 2008 which had everyone buzzing and has done fark all since - on field that is. I know he was 'injured' for a long time but geez he showed nothing to cheer about on his return.

Not sure he's as anywhere near as good as he thinks he is.

As Big Mike said, we should judge these youngsters while playing in a structured and disciplined team.

We all know most players didn't give a toss this year. For whatever reason, be it the lack of respect given to the coach and his staff or the bad influences (on and off the field) of certain senior players.

The club has recruited many promising youngsters from other clubs along with a heap of schoolboy talent. It has swept aside most of the rubbish...with maybe one or two to follow.

The coaching staff will be new. Gone is the so called "dead wood" in all areas. The club has recruited well in areas of dire need; discipline, structure and conditioning.

Let's face it. People like Freddy, Lam and others, were hardly going to instill the type of culture we were looking for. People like Stuart, Pay, Cartwright and co were all winners hungry to succeed when they joined the Roosters, and duly succeeded by lifting the club to another level between 2002-04.

Smith may be disliked by many but what he does bring is stability, structure, discipline and most importantly football knowledge. He will coach this team to play football. Those that don't listen will be on the outer and rightly so.

Whilst it is easy to say many players will not play for him, many many players have thrived under his coaching. He has coached teams with far less cattle than other coaches have had the luxury of doing, yet managed to get them to perform to their highest level.

I try not to read too much into the politics at managerial and board level. This occurs in most organistations, be it rugby league or corporate world.

I'm looking forward to next season.

                  Easts to win.

I'm not a big believer in saying players are over rated. IMO they earn their reputation one way or another, but whether they can maintain their peak for a sustained period of time is another story altogether. For example, some may say Mason is over rated, but in my eyes, he earnt his reputation as one of the most best backrowers during his years at Canterbury. What he done during his time there, I don't think anybody could dispute his standing as one of the best backrowers in the game on that form.
