  • Mini to remain fullback

Story is on foxsports ... I'm on my mobile atm.

Anyway its nice to see cool heads prevail in this situation. We clobbered our way to the title last year so I don't see any reason to change things.

Especially when our attack is already so lethal and the stability and defensive prowess of Mini in the no.1 is the icing on the cake which also makes us the best defensive team in the comp.

    Thoughts? Frustrations?

      Haha Indeed.

      1 more Premiership!

      1 more Premiership!

      1 more Premiership!

The forgotten argument in all of this imo is that RTS is hands down the best winger in the comp. He's such a sensational finisher and a real weapon on the wing. Now I know people could then say, "just imagine what he could do at fullback then!" but we looked damn good with the most potent wing pairing in the comp by a mile, as part of a team playing in front of a true general at the back.

I'll never forget that moment at shark park.

SBW runs, offloads, finds RTS in broken field play, RTS sharp left foot step leaves Todd Carney for dead, glances inside, looks outside, looks outside, no look pass inside... finds Mortimer... TRY!

Awareness, vision, power, strength, agility, evasion all in one play. Two superstars, who knows what they could've been as a combination..

There is no bigger fan of RTS than me but I think he lacks real pace to be a long term outstanding winger. His other attributes of course are many and unique.

With his attitude and skill level however he is still one of the best players in the comp.

Check this out R6. I can see you in 10 years as Mini leads the team out with his walking frame and the men in the white coats come to lock you up as you sit there mouthing the words "1 more year"....

            Minichiello eyes benchmark

Anthony Minichiello says this NRL season may not be his last as he sets his sights on becoming the longest-serving player at Sydney Roosters.

This year, Minichiello's 15th in first grade, was widely believed to be his last after the premiership-winning captain signed a year-long deal with the tricolours last month.

But the former Test and State of Origin player is yet to make a decision on his future and may play on again next year.

''I'm not going to say it's my last season [this season] completely, I'll head into the season and weigh things up when I feel it's appropriate,'' the 33-year-old said on Wednesday.

''It's hard to say when I'll decide, I'll get into the first part of the season and just see how we're going as a club. The main thing is the body and how it's feeling and how the mind's feeling, I suppose.''

Since making his NRL debut in 2000, one-club man Minichiello has played 275 first-grade games for the Roosters. He is the club's all-time leading try-scorer with 122 and sits second behind Luke Ricketson (301 games) in the number of games played.

Minichiello says he can't believe Brad Fittler is making a comeback at the Auckland Nines. He played alongside Fittler in his final first-grade game in the 2004 grand final and, while he believed the former Kangaroos captain could make an impact at the NRL tournament, he said he was crazy to try.

''I think he is mad to come back at 42,'' he said. ''But he is training with the [Roosters] squad and he is a naturally gifted athlete, so good luck to him.''

For him to beat Ricko's record this year, we need to get to the GF. A bit of extra incentive, if he needs any.......

That was not in broken play. That was just a dump out the back offload to a flatfooted RTS. Carney is just a woeful defender and was caught standing on his heels and Roger made him look like a fool.

Personally after the few games RTS had a fullback in 2013 I am glad for him to have another year on the wing to learn his trade. He lost a lot of his spark when he moved to the 1 and also made a few defensive errors (dropped a couple bombs IIRC which is very unlike him).

Completely disagree I believe Sheck would have beaten any player in the competition from that piece of play His footwork is 2nd to none

Have a look for yourself: http://youtu.be/vdKjU3CAzhk?t=2m19s

Carney looks completely at sea. legs way too far apart, standing on his heels, he wasn't going to stop anyone in that position.

Now because its RTS and his footwork IS brilliant, it mean he went through completely untouched. However I would expect anyone in our backline to make a linebreak running at that hole with only one of the worst defenders in the comp in front of them

People seem to forget this. Fullback requires a hell of a lot more general running than wing, and it was noticeable that the 'spark' wasn't there.
Having said that, he's still only a kid and the experience he gained, plus the rest of last year will do him wonders. I expect he'll be given a bit more of a licence to roam this year, hopefully he gets to play a bit of 2nd 5/8, as he showed some skills/vision in that position in the 20's.

He was caught in positioning too. Rts needs more game time at the back this year in order for him to become as prepared as possible imo. Mini atm is our best option defense-wise. He orders the team around well. But a huge sign last year was fergo trying to run over rts, but rts got him around the legs and took him out in which fergo panicked and threw the ball back in play. Huge sign imo.

the short pre-season and broken leg would have crushed any chance that RTS had of starting at fullback this year, on a positive notes it sounds like RTS will be fit for the WCC.

                              Good To know...
I wouldn't be surprised if Coach gives him a little change in scenery by putting him in the center from time to time.
