Good news. He wasn't too bad the first year he was with us. Last year he was recovering from a knee reconstruction. He is still a very capable player.

Phantom, I've seen 2 games since the Wanka's been at the Roosters where he's played to his ability - v the Dogs in 08 and the Warriers in NZ in 08. And from a marquee player I don't think that's enough, but everyone has different expectations I suppose.

And my dislike of the Wanka is a longstanding one. I took exception to the bloke when he first appeared on the footy scene as an affro haired mutt making a name for himself with the Scumdogs. Long before he had any wrap sheet to speak of.

So it's not as if I only jumped on the 'anti-Mason' bandwagon when he signed with the Roosters, I've had plenty of years to build my distaste for him.

Too many in fact. I just want him gone from the NRL for good, as I don't believe he's a good advertisement for the game itself, let alone the Roosters.

Personally, I think he's been a disasterous signing for the Club, and he's become more a liability than an asset. A liabiilty they can't fob off to anyone else, so they're now stuck with.

But that's the fault of Roosters management, not the bloke himself.

It's a stupid rule. By restricting their social lives it only turns them into caged lions when they are allowed to enjoy themselves.

Start treating them like humans and they may behave like one.

Unfortunately letting them drink when they pleased didn't work out too well either.

It was after the alcohol rule was relaxed that Earl, Friend, Myles, Sa and Waqa were involved in alcohol related incidents. Not to mention Farkwit Fittler.

Mason was at his best when folkes actually had control at the dogs.

that ended about 2006, since then, willie has fallen by the wayside.

Folkes lost control and we saw where the dogs ended up, players left, mason included, they had a clean out, brought in a new coach and look where they ended up.

Willie comes into the roosters with a coach that was riding on the wave of emotions after a successfull second half to the 2007 season.

As we head through the 2008 season, we start to see the cracks in the roosters side, leadership starts to wain and players start to play around, come 2009 the wheels fall off, players in compromising positions, the coach has no idea and ends up caught pissed in a hotel, knocking on doors and half naked.

The point i am trying to get to is that regardless of how senior a player is, if there is a lack of direction and dicipline from above, ie, the coach, the players will use that as an example and you end up with a season like we had.

The clean slate that Smith has offered Mason is a bit of dicipline, structure and control.

We can only hope for the best. A coach in control could well see the best of Willie Mason
