Carney's a very good player. But then again, a host of very good players have come to the Roosters and seemingly lost a leg. But I don't think he will. He must play in the halves, not at fullback. He's a pretty complete player. Not a kickaholic (like Pearce and to a lesser extent Anasta) and can make a break (unlike Pearce or Anasta or anyone else in the backline). He's just what we need. As long as he stays out of trouble, the focus on his previous misdemeanours will fade pretty quickly. He's potentially the best signing this club has made in a long, long time.

As a bloke - with Fitzy and Morley in the top three I have ever been personally associated with at Easts. They are all equal for me.

As a player - has not been able to fulfill his potential and I think he will blossom under Smith (who is a fan) with some structure in place.

One thing for sure - he loves the roosters and wants to play his career out there.

He has had a horrible year under Shittler (like all of us) and can't wait to get out there again (like all of us).

There's no doubting his effort or his commitment to the cause, but then again that could also be said about Brett Finch. The problem with Anasta is that he's too slow to be a top flight 5/8, and nowhere near a good enough ball runner or defender to be a top flight lock forward. Given how much he's on, hopefully he'll be offloaded at some stage before the end of 2011.

Except that the people who said that about Fittler were wrong, partly because Fittler had tremendous footwork. I don't suggest Anasta should move to lock. I don't think he is a lock. But I don't reckon he's a top flight 5/8 either. Similar sort of thing to Mitch Aubusson. Not really a centre, but not really a forward either. Same thing with Sa.


I don't want to be harsh on Braith, and I've heard others who've also met him say that he's a great bloke. And I'm sure given his commitment he would play anywhere that suited the side best
